ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

As a Geospatial Data Operations Specialist II, you will play a key role in ensuring that map content moves reliably through onX systems and into customers' hands. You will collaborate with Project Managers and the geospatial team across onX's verticals to execute work that supports product roadmaps as needs arise. This role is focused on data acquisition, ingestion, and curation, with outreach to external data sources and agencies being a core component of your work. You will apply your communication skills, technical aptitude, and keen attention to detail to ensure our data meets its high standards for quality and trustworthiness.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Essential Job Duties & Functions

  • Data Management: Leverage existing geospatial pipelines to ensure the reliable delivery of data. Transform geospatial and non-geospatial datasets into formats that are readily ingestible into onX systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct visual quality control on our map content and investigate customer-submitted error reports to improve our products.
  • Communication: Proactively communicate the status of your work and escalate any identified data quality risks, pipeline gaps, or platform limitations to the appropriate team members.
  • Data Acquisition and Ingestion: Assist in data acquisition tasks by gathering readily available geospatial data and support the team by performing data source ingestion.
  • Data Processing: Run routine data processing tasks using onX proprietary data processing platforms, ensuring you understand the required inputs and expected outputs.
  • Quality Control: Conduct basic Quality Control (QC) of post-processed geospatial map data, recognizing data processing limitations, anomalies, and bugs. You will escalate identified issues to senior Specialists or Analysts for resolution.
  • Data Analysis: Perform visual comparisons of candidate datasets to help determine their relative quality and usefulness for our products.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot basic technical issues with geospatial tools and processes, providing clear and concise problem descriptions to the team to help with replication and resolution

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Wildlife Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of professional geospatial experience.
  • A foundational understanding of geospatial data concepts and a passion for learning more.
  • Familiarity with common geospatial tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and an ability to follow established procedures for data processing and analysis.
  • A keen eye for detail, especially for conducting visual data comparisons and quality control checks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An interest in outdoor recreation products.
  • A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI
  • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
  • Ability to travel bi-annuallyfor multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp. 

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience using QGIS.
  • Familiarity with basic SQL queries.
  • Experience working effectively in a remote or distributed team.
  • Personal experience using onX products.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

 onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $62,000 and $72,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based upon experience, skills, certifications, education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and an annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
