Job DetailsJob Location: Seattle, WA 98121Position Type: InternshipSalary Range: $20.00 - $20.00 HourlyJob Category: College RecruitingPosition Summary: As a Facilities Engineer Intern, you will work alongside the Facilities Engineer to gain hands-on exposure to operation, maintenance and repair of complex building systems at the assigned asset.  This internship provides practical, real-world experience with building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, boilers, hot water systems, and electrical systems, under the direct guidance and supervision of the Facilities Engineer.   A successful Facilities Engineer Intern is able to manage their time effectively, is detail oriented, a trustworthy team player, and takes pride in their work.  In addition, this position needs to be accountable and attentive to provide excellent customer service skills when interacting with residents, associates, and vendors.  This hourly non-exempt internship is a temporary and may last up to 10 weeks.   Primary Responsibilities: Observes as assist the Facilities Engineer in analyzing and assessing building systems maintenance requests; observe and contribute to the development of recommended solutions Observe and assist with repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance in areas such as electrical, plumbing, boilers, hot water heaters, and HVAC systems, under direct supervision Participate in routine inspections of exterior house systems, equipment, and supplies; document findings and report status to the Facilities Engineer Support the execution of the equipment and capital preventative building systems maintenance program Learn to monitor systems for potential problems and participate in developing proactive solutions Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of replacements, on-site purchases, and product warranty information as directed Observe and assist with vendor scheduling, supply shopping, and pricing comparisons under the guidance of the Facilities Engineer and Community Director Participate in discussions regarding long-range building systems maintenance and improvement planning to gain exposure to capital planning processes Set the standard and participate in a positive team environment through teamwork, communication, and excellence in service Accompany the Facilities Engineer and/or vendors throughout buildings, including vacant and/or occupied units, as needed Follow all company key logging and storing procedures Help ensure the maintenance shop/custodial area is clean, organized, and professionally presentable at all times Maintain regular and effective communication with the Facilities Engineer and on-site Team Leaders Promote safety and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to minimize exposure to hazards that cause workplace injury and illness Report safety issues, accidents, liabilities, and emergency situations to the Facilities Engineer or Team Leaders immediately Complete all assigned safety and systems training Inspect, respond to, and follow up with safety issues, accidents, liabilities and emergency situations immediately   QualificationsQualifications: Currently enrolled in an accredited school or closely related degree program Strong interest in building systems, facilities operations, or property management Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds/36.3 kg, climb ladders and climb multiple flights of stairs at a time Able to use appliance dolly, push/pull up to 200 pounds/90.7kg Ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment and be customer service oriented Have excellent interpersonal communication skills; Dependable and ability to make good judgments Ability to problem-solve and bring innovative ideas to challenges; handle stress effectively Excellent time management and organization skills; Able to complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong motivation to learn & contribute on a daily basis Follow Weidner’s Mission, Vision and Values and comply with all Weidner policies and procedures as well as all Fair Housing, local, state/province, and federal laws Prompt, regular attendance; wear company dress code / uniform & maintain professional appearance at all times Willing and able to be assigned to other Weidner properties as needed Working knowledge of English; detail oriented, well organized Must agree to a criminal background check and sign an agreement for voluntary drug testing Driver’s license and vehicle insurance must be valid and unexpired at all times and match the country in which associate will work
