Manager, Tax & Compliance Technology
Introduction to the Team
Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including our Global Finance Organization, Traveler and Partner Service Platform, Legal Team, Strategy and Corporate Development Team, and People and Places Organization.
The Tax & Compliance Technology team supports the tax and compliance capabilities that underpin Expedia Group’s global travel marketplace. The team manages tax content for all jurisdictions and lines of business, coordinates jurisdiction launches and operates tax engine and compliance workflows in partnership with tax, product, engineering, legal, finance, and business operations teams.

As Manager, Tax & Compliance Technology, you will lead a people-focused, technically grounded operations team that keeps critical tax technology accurate, resilient, and ready for change. You will combine day-to-day operational leadership with hands-on expertise in tax content, tax determination platforms, compliance controls, escalations, and continuous improvement. You will help translate regulatory and business needs into reliable operating practices while developing a team that can scale with Expedia Group’s global marketplace.
In this role, you will
- Lead and develop a tax technology operations team, setting clear goals, managing performance, building capability, and creating a culture of accountability, inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Own operational performance across tax content management, jurisdiction launches, tax engine administration, monthly remittance changes, incident and problem management, service queues, and critical escalations.
- Serve as a player-coach and subject matter expert across tax determination and compliance platforms, partnering with Tax, Regulatory, Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and frontline operations to resolve complex issues and improve customer outcomes.
- Plan capacity, prioritize work, and maintain effective coverage across business-as-usual operations, regulatory change, launches, audits, projects, and urgent requests, including work delivered through managed-service or supplier partners.
- Establish measurable operating controls, documentation, knowledge-management practices, and readiness criteria that improve accuracy, reduce manual workarounds, and support dependable launches.
- Influence the technology roadmap by identifying operational bottlenecks, automation opportunities, data and reporting needs, and platform improvements; communicate trade-offs and recommendations to technical and non-technical leaders.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, Tax, Accounting, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience in technology operations, tax technology, tax operations, compliance technology, or a related domain.
- 3+ years of experience directly managing, coaching, and developing individual contributors, including experience with performance management and capacity planning.
- Experience operating and improving multiple technology implementations or operational domains, with a track record of resolving escalations and improving service quality.
- Experience partnering with technical and business stakeholders to define requirements, assess operational readiness, support testing or launches, and deliver measurable proces
Preferred qualifications
- Experience managing indirect-tax content, jurisdictional rule changes, tax determination, or tax-engine operations; experience with Vertex, Avalara, or similar platforms is helpful.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams and coordinating managed-service, vendor, or supplier delivery against service, quality, and control expectations.
- Familiarity with compliance controls, audit support, regulatory change management, UAT, incident/problem management, and operational readiness practices.
- Experience using automation, AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows to improve operational accuracy, speed, knowledge access, or reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product and technology roadmaps, identify cross-team dependencies, and deliver improvements across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
Location expectations
Please note that this role is only available in Seattle, in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $116,500.00 to $163,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $186,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
