Job Description:

Orientation and Mobility Specialist | Seattle WA | 2026–2027 School Year

Ampersand Therapy is hiring an itinerant Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist for the 2026–2027 school year in the Seattle WA area. We are a women- and therapist-founded company focused on providing meaningful support to school-based professionals and the students they serve.

Job Highlights:

  • Position: Orientation and Mobility Specialist

  • Setting: In-person and school-based

  • Schedule: Full time, approximately 8:00 AM–3:30 PM

  • Maximum Hours: Up to 40 hours per week

  • Dates: August 27, 2026–June 19, 2027

  • Grade Levels: All grade levels

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate students’ orientation and mobility needs in school and community environments

  • Provide individualized instruction in safe and independent travel skills

  • Teach skills involving spatial awareness, sensory efficiency, route planning, and cane use

  • Develop, implement, and monitor orientation and mobility goals within students’ IEPs

  • Recommend environmental modifications and mobility supports

  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired, families, educators, and related service providers

  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary evaluations

  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitor student progress

  • Travel between assigned schools and instructional environments as needed

Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist credential or applicable state authorization

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in orientation and mobility, visual impairments, or a related field

  • Experience working with students across multiple grade levels preferred

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time-management skills

  • Ability to travel between school sites and provide instruction in varied environments
