The Relief Night Auditor is a versatile position providing excellent guest service during afternoon/evening shifts and managing the hotel’s financial end-of-day process overnight. This role contributes to the overall success of the hotel by anticipating guest needs and delivering friendly, efficient, and superior customer service during all guest interactions. As a Relief Auditor, you will serve as the primary backup for the Night Audit shift, typically working two overnight shifts per week. During overnight hours, you are the senior team member on duty and act as the Manager on Duty, ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests while maintaining smooth hotel operations. The role plays an important part in maintaining a welcoming environment and upholding high internal and external guest service standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining the hotel’s service standards while supporting both guests and team members.
Responsibilities:
- Provides customer service and handles administrative duties such as the check-in and check-out of guests, handling guest concerns, assisting with the arrivals and departures of groups and tours and luggage storageÂ
- Maintains an inventory of vacancies, reservations and room assignments
- Registers arriving guests and assigns rooms
- Presents statements of charges to departing guests and receive payment
- Compiles and checks daily record sheets, guest accounts, receipts and vouchers using computerized systems
- Daily accounting data entry and reconciliationÂ
- Runs all Night Audit reports and reports any discrepancies to Front Office Manager, General Manager and Accounting officeÂ
- Posts any late charges not posted on previous shiftÂ
- Completes Food & Beverage Audit, keys in journal entriesÂ
- Completes credit card and city ledger sequenceÂ
- Coordinates and completes back-upÂ
- Runs night audit sequenceÂ
- Delivers audit materials to Accounting Office
- Completes daily sales & labour reportÂ
- Follows established procedures and policies when completing tasks
- Receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail
- Prepares and sends courier packages and ensures accurate billing and records
- Orders office supplies and maintains inventory levels
- Completes gratuities porterage distribution report on a daily basisÂ
- Completes daily room pick up & forecast reportsÂ
- Provides basic data entry and transaction handling service for the Front OfficeÂ
- Produces statistics and reports on the data as per standard formatsÂ
- Reports discrepancies in room rates, payment information and credit arrangements to appropriate manager for follow up
- Verifies the accuracy of their daily inputs, including payment transactions, and submits their daily shift audit for review by the night audit
- Handles cash, cheques, credit and debit card transactions in accordance with hotel policies
- Other duties as required
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Completion of Secondary School
- Degree/Diploma in Hospitality preferred or Hospitality industry courses in Hotel Management
- Minimum 3 years Front Desk experienceÂ
- Rooms Forecasting and/or budgeting an asset
- Understanding of Yield and Revenue Management an assetÂ
- Proficiency in excel worksheet applicationÂ
- Demonstrates superior customer service skillsÂ

- Able to work overnight shifts including those on weekends and holidays
