Amazon's BDT organization is building a new data lake marketplace allowing for data producers and consumers to easily and securely share large volumes of data, run massively parallel analytics and share the gained insights.
As part of the BDT organization, we are developing the core services of the data lake that includes cataloging, storage, access, compliance and quality and we’re looking for top engineers to build it from the ground up.
This is a hands-on position where you will be do everything from designing and building highly efficient Big Data storage and components with state-of-the-art features for optimized analytical and AI workflow on variety of computes like Spark, Redshift, Athena, EMR, Ray, mentor other engineers and work with our business partners, data engineers and analysts to help them get the best results. You need to not only be a top software developer with excellent programming skills with a stellar record of delivery but also show bias for customer obsession. You need to have a real passion for very large scale storage, catalog, databases and massively parallel computing. You will work with the latest AWS technologies in the big data space such as S3, EMR, Glue, Redshift and Athena to build new applications that leverage these technologies and open source frameworks like Iceberg, Apache Spark, Hive, Presto and Flink.

Your responsibilities will include:

Build and manage a team of industry-leading software engineers

Foster career growth and a strong team culture

Recruit, hire, mentor, and coach engineers

Work cross-functionally, interfacing with internal customers to gain clarity on requirements, set priorities and communicate direction and progress

Own all operational metrics for your team’s software

Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver incremental value to customers

Work with product management to develop long-term architectural and business strategy

Familiarity with high velocity development using GenAI tools

Business Data Technology mission is to accelerate Amazon’s data-driven business, enable the next generation of analytics and machine learning technologies at scale, and raise the bar on global customer trust by cataloging, protecting, enriching, and brokering all SDO data through its lifecycle. Enterprise Data & Catalog (EDC)'s vision is to provide unified data access, fine-grained access controls, and enriched, descriptive metadata across all SDO data for all commonly used formats and storage types. Andes Cairns mission is to provide best of breed storage, catalog and compute for the largest data and highest scale analytical and AI jobs. Basic Qualifications: - 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
