Our team 

 

Our agile cross functional portfolio teams work collaboratively to solve interesting and challenging problems in industries we participate in. 

 

Typically, our teams comprise of System Engineers, Data Scientists, Full Stack Software Engineers, Test Engineers, System Reliability Engineers (DevOps) and Computer Systems Analysts. 


The role 

 

You will become one of our key contributors who guide and foster innovation by analyzing, designing, and implementing leading edge systems that span various market segments including the transportation market. 

 

As a Systems Engineer you will be actively involved in the end-to-end systems analysis lifecycle of complex communications and technology projects; giving technical input from eliciting user/product needs, requirements capture/management/traceability, through to test & verification planning for systems deployments. 

 

With mentorship from a Senior Systems Engineer, you will help implement, analyze and develop communications solutions and input into the technology roadmap keeping the business at the forefront of industry trends. You will provide technical contribution to the planning and implementation of projects, deployments, operations and maintenance, incident and problem management, and the development of tools and techniques to excel at it all. 

 

The role includes championing systems analysis best practice in MA and working closely with the UK Systems Engineering team to continuously improve the practice and processes. This includes proactively contributing to knowledge dissemination by, for example, being a technology evangelist, learning and being coached, etc. and fostering links to other technical disciplines across the team. 

 

Minimum Requirements 

 

We are looking for an applicant who has: 

 

  • A degree or diploma in Computing, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience). 


  • Experience analyzing and implementing systems with hardware, embedded software, application software and mechanical components. 


  • An understanding of wired and wireless communications systems 


  • An understanding and appreciation of requirements capture, management, traceability processes and the importance thereof. 


  • Evidence of involvement in testing & validation of distributed electronic and software systems. 


  • LAN/WAN networking and IT Network Operations experience. 


  • Experience of working with Linux servers (preferably Debian derived), including set-up and administration of common services, routing and IP 


  • Experience with programming skills, including working with version control tools. 


  • Experience with the physical installation of equipment, cabling and systems, particularly in the transport sector. 

 

Desirable & Development Areas 

 

Some of the below would be beneficial to the applicant, but opportunities to develop in these areas will also be provided: 

 

  • Rail or other Transport industry experience 


  • Technical sales involvement would be an advantage 


  • Experience with wireless network deployment, wireless LAN controllers and an appreciation of networking in a dynamic environment 


  • Experience of automation platforms such as Saltstack, Puppet, Ansible etc. 


  • Experience of programming in Python and/or Bash 


  • Experience of working in virtualized and cloud-based environments 


  • Experience in the rail vehicle environment with an appreciation of rolling stock regulations. In particular, evidence of defining and specifying systems to be installed onto rail vehicles would be a distinct advantage


  • Some understanding of US rail/bus market would be desirable 


  • Customer facing experience in a technical or product capacity 
  • Professional qualifications in communications systems (e.g. CCNA). 


  • Experience with requirements management and lifecycle management tools
