CareerLink Adjunct positions are part-time positions hired on an as needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists Ivy Tech students and clients with reaching their training goals. The adjunct will be responsible for effective communication, instructional design, course facilitation and skills assessment(s) within the framework of the client’s needs. For this specific project, adjunct instructors will be working with Make It Happen Signage Academy leadership for scope, direction and support.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop sign industry specific curriculum courses in Sign Design, Print Production, and related Visual Communication subjects.
  • Deliver instruction in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including but not limited to: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flexi and Enroute with an emphasis on vector graphics and production-ready file preparation.
  • Introducing students to design fundamentals, including color theory, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Provide training in flat and dimensional design for signage, environmental graphics, and large-format applications.
  • Incorporate manufacturing principles related to sign fabrication, such as materials, processes, finishing techniques, and digital printing workflows.
  • Guide students in developing production files, shop drawings, and permit drawing, ensuring accuracy and alignment with industry standards.
  • Support student learning through demonstrations, critiques, and hands-on projects that mirror real-world concept design and fabrication challenges.
  • Maintain currency with industry practices, tools, and technologies related to sign and print production.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate course records.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to ensure curriculum relevance and consistency across Visual Communication programs.

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communication, Industrial Design, or a related field; industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements depending on institutional policy.
  • Professional experience in sign design, print production, fabrication, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Illustrator and other vector-based design tools.
  • Knowledge of large-format printing, CNC/plotter workflows, materials, substrates, finishing, and fabrication processes.
  • Ability to teach blueprint reading, shop documentation, and production-oriented design.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.
  • Prior teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction.
  • Expertise in topic assigned to be able to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to create a learning environment to maintain student success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Certification in the proposed teaching area (preferred not mandatory)

Hours vary, must be flexible depending on client needs.
