Pre-employment Screening Requirements
The Tohono O’odham Ki:Ki Association conducts pre-employment screening for all positions, which may include a criminal background check, verification of credentials, licenses, certifications, and work history. In addition, a check of names and identification documents is conducted on all new employees to ensure they are legally authorized to work in the United States. All employees are required to successfully pass a drug screening test prior to employment; random drug screening tests may be administered post-employment.
Summary
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining and repairing various aspects of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, roofing, drywall, coolers, and heaters. A significant portion of the role involves painting both interior and exterior surfaces, with duties including surface preparation, application, and finishing to ensure the highest aesthetic and protective standards for all building structures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Maintains and repairs electrical, plumbing, solar systems, structural, and mechanical elements of housing and building units.
- Reads and interprets electrical and plumbing schematics and blueprints.
- Troubleshoots, dismantles, remodels, repairs, reassembles, and installs electrical switches and components.
- Repairs damage from vandalism or storms to buildings and houses.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on housing units.
- Repairs cabinetry, roofs, sheetrock, and ceilings.
- Replaces mirrors, windows, and interior/exterior doors.
- Repairs or opens locked doors and gates.
- Replaces floor tiles and repairs other surface materials.
- Welds and repairs doors, gates, fences, and equipment.

Primary Painter Duties:
- Prepares surfaces for painting (e.g., sanding, scraping, cleaning).
- Applies paint, stain, varnish, or other finishes to building surfaces, including walls, ceilings, trim, and exterior areas.
- Paints both interior and exterior areas of building structures and equipment.
- Maintains and repairs painting tools (brushes, rollers, sprayers, etc.).
- Uses proper painting techniques to achieve both aesthetic and durable protective finishes.
- Works with various specialty coatings, including anti-corrosive and weather-resistant paints.

Additional Maintenance & Repairs:
- Maintains, repairs, or replaces HVAC or swamp cooler systems.
- Performs concrete repairs, including block work and pouring.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs stoves, refrigerators, and water heaters.
- Assists with other trades and maintenance activities.
- Occasionally scheduled for on-call duty.
- Communicates and reports to the supervisor as needed.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3 years work experience within the maintenance or construction trade and any training certificate within the maintenance field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to understand and speak O’odham Language, preferred.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use fractions.

Reasoning Ability:
