Position Summary:
The Fiber Network Technician participates in the implementation and maintenance of network systems including the hardware, software, cabling and other data and voice communications equipment and functions to provide optimum data and voice services to CVEC Fiber customers. Oversees home and business installations. Provides escalated technical support for customers and resolves complaints.
Key Responsibilities:Â
- Equipment Maintenance: Monitor and troubleshoot switches, routers, VoIP systems, and DC power equipment.
- Circuit Testing: Run, terminate, and test fiber optic cables and cross-connects (jumpers) between frames.
- System Upgrades: Install next-generation hardware, configure device software, and execute system cutovers or infrastructure decommissions.
- Diagnostic Monitoring: Respond to system alerts, analyze performance alarms, and track troubleshooting actions using ticketing software.
- Provides tier two support to customers. Provides in-home technical support for customers who need additional help after installation.
- Provides installation of services to anchor institutions and businesses.
- Assists with tier three after-hours coverage.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.
- 2 or more years of experience in a server or network role.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with VoIP protocols (SIP), fiber testing tools (OTDR, Light meter), switching infrastructure, and basic IP networking (VLANs).
