Lake View Cattle Co. is seeking an Assistant Farm Operations Manager to join and help lead our dedicated team. This is a hands-on farming role involving day-to-day livestock care, crop farming, heavy equipment operation, and general farm maintenance. It is also a leadership/managerial position, with oversight and development of our core team of 4-5 employees, with room for individual leadership and career development. Flexibility, experience, and commitment are key.

Established in 2007, Lake View Cattle Co. is home to 75+ Black Angus cattle, 40+ pigs, and 145+ turkeys; we also cultivate corn, soybeans, and hay. We proudly serve Cayuga Nation Citizens across the United States by providing quarterly meat distributions, and we are committed to high standards of animal care and agricultural sustainability.

 

What You’ll Do: 

As the Assistant Farm Operations Manager, you will support and oversee the day-to-day operation of a fully functioning livestock and crop farm.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the completion of daily farm chores, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and animal handling
  • Assisting with seasonal harvesting, hay baling, and crop care
  • Overseeing all aspects of herd management, including breeding, calving, weaning, feeding, and grazing
  • Monitoring animal health and behavior, especially during calving season
  • Maintaining accurate, real-time data on animal movements, behavior, and health to support data-informed decision-making
  • Operating and maintaining farm machinery safely, including tractors, ATVs, spreaders, loaders, tillers, irrigation systems, etc.
  • Performing light mechanical repairs and routine service on farm equipment to ensure reliability
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4-5 employees. Fostering accountability, completion of essential daily tasks, and a strong team culture
  • Providing on-site oversight and stepping in on any tasks or projects when necessary
  • Maintaining clean and safe animal habitats and farm facilities
  • Restocking supplies and keeping inventory

 

Qualifications: 

  • At least 5-7 years of experience running a farm and/or beef cattle operation
  • Proven supervising/managerial experience or leadership skills in farm or agricultural settings
  • Strong animal husbandry skills with experience handling livestock
  • Developed knowledge of cattle raising operations, including cattle handling, bovine nutrition, and herd health practices
  • Ability to operate farm equipment and farm tools safely and effectively
  • Basic mechanical know-how with experience troubleshooting and repairing agricultural machinery
  • Ability to analyze data and make sound, timely decisions supporting operational goals
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other members of the farm team
  • High organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capability of managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently with strong senses of initiative and accountability
  • Physical fitness, including ability to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive physical work
  • Flexibility and the capacity to adapt to variable hours, weather conditions, and shifting farm priorities
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and a reliable form of transportation


Schedule and Hours: 

  • Typical Weekly Hours: 40+ (varies seasonally)
  • Mondays through Fridays (plus weekend mornings/evenings as needed)
  • Winter Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Summer Hours: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Additional hours required during calving season, harvest time, emergencies
