Job Summary
Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician’s order and departmental policy. Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.Team members in this job have committed to work a minimum 96-hour commitment for a 6-week period.
Essential Functions

Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring various types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Initiates and manages various types of airways and associated equipment.
Obtains blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results.
Documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.
Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.      
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school
Experience - No experience required.
In Lieu Of
In lieu of education and experience noted above, diploma and/or experience may be considered.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the state in which work is performed.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). NBRC (credentials must be maintained)
BLS
NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPSÂ etc. must obtain and maintain certifications as required by work unit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to obtain blood gasses from all sites.
