JOB TITLE:  Patient Care Technician                      DEPARTMENT:   Nursing

  

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Responsible to:        Director of Nursing & Nursing Supervisor

Responsible for:       Does not supervise other employees                   

Interrelationships:     Works cooperatively with all hospital     

                                    Departments and the Medical Staff.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Provides direct and indirect patient care activities under direct supervision. Assists

patients with activities of daily living, providing for personal care, comfort, and

assistance when necessary. 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Experience:               Previous experience preferred

 

Education:                 Currently enrolled in high school or equivalent

 

Req. Cert./                 Current C.N.A certificate in the state where employed, CPR  certified. Computer and clerical experience desirable

 

 


                                                

 

JOB DUTIES (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

 

  1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement program, environmental and infection control standards.

 

  1. Performs basic nursing procedures, including collection of lab specimens, thermal applications, application of simple dressing, and perineal care.

 

  1. Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, intake and output.

 

  1. Assist in admission, transfer, and dismissal procedures of the patient.

 

  1. Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, bed pans, transportation, skin care, oral care and positioning.

 

  1. Keeps the patient’s room straightened and clean.

 

  1. Maintains patient documentation as outlined by hospital policy.

 

  1. Maintains confidentiality of all patient data. Use complete discretion when discussing patient information.

 

  1. Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of medical treatment.

 

  1. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and maintains professionalism.

 

  1. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings as required.

 

  1. Orders supplies for nursing floor and ER units as needed from central supply.

 

  1. Follows all hospital infection prevention policies, including proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and ensures patient care equipment is cleaned, disinfected, and stored appropriately after each use.

 

  1. Monitors and restocks patient care areas with necessary supplies.
