Housekeeping Manager – Vacation Rental Operations

Mountaineer Cleaning and Maintenance

We are looking for an experienced Housekeeping Manager to lead the day-to-day housekeeping operations for a large, fast-moving-and still growing-vacation rental portfolio.

First, a little about us.

Mountaineer Cleaning and Maintenance has been recognized on the Inc5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies four years in a row. We're proud of what we've built, we're continuing to grow, and we're looking for the right person to help us build what's next.

This isn't just about filling another management position. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with us, make an impact, and be part of something great.

Now, about the job.

When we say experienced, we mean vacation rental housekeeping experience. Managing housekeeping operations for hotels is valuable experience, but vacation rentals are a very different animal.

Our properties are spread across the area. Schedules change. Guests check out late. Owners have questions. Cleaners call with problems. A property that was definitely not on today's schedule suddenly needs to be cleaned today.

And sometimes all of those things happen before you've finished your coffee.

Some people call that stressful.

We call it Sunday.

If you just laughed because you've lived it, please keep reading.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Your mission-should you choose to accept it-is to keep our housekeeping operation organized, staffed, moving, and accountable.

No, nothing will self-destruct in five seconds.

Although occasionally the schedule may appear to be trying.

You will:

  • Manage the daily cleaning schedule across 600+ vacation rental properties
  • Coordinate and organize 50+ independent 1099 cleaning crews
  • Assign cleaners based on location, workload, property requirements, and availability-not by throwing darts at a map
  • Group crews geographically whenever possible because sending someone from one side of the county to the other and then right back again is generally frowned upon
  • Make real-time scheduling adjustments when cleans are added, changed, delayed, canceled, resurrected, or otherwise decide they have no interest in cooperating with the beautifully organized schedule you created that morning
  • Communicate clearly with cleaners, office staff, owners, and property managers
  • Handle housekeeping-related problems quickly and professionally, even when the problem itself is neither quick nor particularly professional
  • Help resolve quality concerns and determine what needs to happen next
  • Ensure cleaners understand and follow company procedures and property-specific requirements
  • Help train, coach, and hold cleaning crews accountable for performance
  • Maintain accurate information and stay organized using spreadsheets and company systems
  • Work closely with the rest of the operations team to make sure properties are guest-ready on time

In other words, there are a lot of moving pieces.

Your job is to know where the pieces are moving.

Preferably before they collide.

Geography Matters. A Lot.

You will need to know the local area-or learn it very quickly.

Understanding where properties are located and how the different areas connect is essential when you're coordinating dozens of crews.

Google Maps is wonderful...Waze is BETTER!

Common sense is also highly recommended.

If Cabin A and Cabin B are technically seven miles apart but those seven miles involve a mountain, three switchbacks, tourist traffic, and what appears to be a road designed for one-and-a-half vehicles, they're not really seven miles apart.

Knowing things like that will eventually become one of your superpowers.

What We're Looking For

This position requires someone with multiple years of management experience specifically in vacation rental housekeeping operations.

The right person will be:

  • 100% bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experienced managing a large number of cleaners or cleaning crews
  • Extremely organized and comfortable managing a high-volume schedule
  • Proficient with spreadsheets-and not frightened when one contains more than 12 rows
  • Comfortable learning new software, rules, procedures, and property requirements quickly
  • Familiar with the local area and able to think geographically when assigning work
  • Confident communicating by phone with owners and property managers
  • Able to handle complaints and problems without becoming defensive or overwhelmed
  • Comfortable making decisions when the schedule changes unexpectedly-which it will...all the time
  • Able to prioritize when five things are important and three of them believe they're emergencies
  • Consistent about following through
  • Willing to hold people accountable while still treating them professionally and respectfully

You don't need to know absolutely everything.

You do need to be willing to find the answer.

And most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of the operation.

If something isn't working, we don't want someone whose first instinct is to explain why it isn't their responsibility.

We want someone whose first instinct is:

"Okay. What do we need to do to fix it?"

Because unfortunately, staring intensely at a problem has yet to make one disappear.

We've tried.

Several times.

This Is a Hands-On Management Position

This is not a position where you create the schedule in the morning, admire your color coding, take a victory lap around the office, and consider the day's responsibilities complete.

Vacation rental housekeeping changes throughout the day.

Cleaners need answers.

Schedules need adjusting.

Problems need solving.

Information needs communicating.

Owners need callbacks.

Sometimes you need to pick up the phone instead of sending six messages, three emojis, and a prayer that somebody else handles it.

We need someone who stays engaged with the operation and leads from the front.

There may occasionally even be a day when everything goes exactly according to plan.

We assume.

Statistically, it has to happen eventually.

Your Schedule: Thursday – Monday

The regular schedule for this position is Thursday through Monday, with Tuesday and Wednesday off.

Yes, that means weekends.

Weekend work is mandatory.

Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays are our most important days because vacation rentals stubbornly refuse to arrange their turnovers around a traditional Monday–Friday workweek.

We've spoken with the cabins about this.

They remain unwilling to compromise.

So, if your ideal weekend involves being completely unreachable from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, this probably isn't your dream job.

If your ideal Tuesday, however, involves running errands while everyone else is at work and wondering why the grocery store is so wonderfully empty...

Welcome to your new weekend.

Who Will Succeed Here

You'll probably enjoy this job if you're the kind of person who gets a weird amount of satisfaction from taking chaos and turning it into an organized plan.

You notice problems before they become emergencies.

You remember details.

You communicate.

You follow up.

You don't assume someone else probably handled it.

You can manage dozens of moving pieces without losing sight of the people involved.

You know how to hold someone accountable without turning every conversation into an episode of reality television.

You can laugh when appropriate, stay calm when things get hectic, and get back to solving the problem.

And when the unexpected happens-as it absolutely will-you don't spend twenty minutes holding a committee meeting about the existence of the problem.

You start solving it.

Come Grow With Us

Mountaineer Cleaning and Maintenance is growing, and we're proud of the company and team we've built.

Being named to the Inc5000 four consecutive years didn't happen by accident. It happened because of people who took ownership, solved problems, adapted as we grew, and cared about doing things well.

We're looking for another one of those people.

Someone who doesn't just want a management title.

Someone who wants to manage.

Someone who wants the opportunity to make an operation better, help a company continue growing, and look back a few years from now knowing they helped build something.

If you have significant vacation rental housekeeping management experience, strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, a sense of humor, and the confidence to manage a large operation, we'd like to hear from you.

Bring your experience.

Bring your organizational skills.

Bring your sense of humor.

We'll provide the spreadsheets.

Come grow with us and be part of something great.
