Met-Con Inc., a leader in the structural steel fabrication industry, is seeking a motivated and experienced Shipping Lead to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, efficiency, and safety of our steel loadout operations while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Position Summary

The Shipping Lead oversees steel loadout operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules. This individual works closely with the Fabrication Plant Manager and other departments to coordinate operations, train team members, and maintain compliance with safety and quality protocols. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership skills and takes a hands-on approach to managing daily activities and achieving operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Staffing & Training

  • Participate in candidate interviews alongside the Fabrication Plant Manager to ensure the selection of qualified and trainable individuals.

  • Oversee and facilitate training of new employees within the shipping and paint departments.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all material is safely loaded onto trucks, roadworthy, and properly accounted for.

  • Verify that material marks are visible, accurate, and properly secured for shipment.

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure load tickets are detailed, accurate, and properly entered into Tekla EPMgo.

  • Coordinate with the Logistics Coordinator, Shop Manager, and Production Team to prepare loads according to the look-ahead schedule.

  • Maintain awareness of daily production schedules to ensure painting and loading teams meet delivery deadlines, including overtime and weekend work when necessary.

  • Identify and recommend operational improvements to management for review and approval.

Safety & Discipline

  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and ensure full team compliance.

  • Lead daily stand-up safety meetings.

  • Partner with shop management in administering the Employee Corrective Action and Progressive Discipline Policy and Program.

Leadership

  • Provide professional, fair, and consistent leadership aligned with Kinsley Steel Inc. values.

  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Foster a collaborative, productive, and positive work environment.

  • Drive operational excellence within the department.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel material handling operations.

  • At least 2 years in a leadership role.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience operating overhead cranes, telehandlers, vertical mast lifts, and Combi-style forklifts.

  • Familiarity with Tekla EPMgo or similar production/shipping software preferred.

Leadership Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead teams, train employees, and consistently enforce company policies.

Organizational Skills:

  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Attention to Detail:

  • Strong commitment to quality and accuracy.
