The primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates by using safe restraining techniques, maintaining clean and organized treatment areas, obtaining relevant client and pet information, educating clients about preventative care and treatments, providing professional and efficient service including prescribing and administering preventative care, communicating diagnosis and treatment plans effectively, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws including controlled substance inventory, and following state guidelines regarding veterinary assistants and technicians. Additional duties as assigned. The role requires surgical skills, problem-solving, client service skills, communication skills, organizational ability, and a compassionate commitment to pet care. Special working conditions include the ability to work more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings, exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, and the ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and good hand-eye coordination. Requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, a valid veterinary license in good standing, and a DEA license.
