For more than 50 years, NMHSI—a nonprofit community health center—has proudly served communities across Northwest Michigan. Our Shelby Clinic is seeking a bilingual, compassionate, and detail-oriented Interpreter to join our team.

About the Role

The Interpreter plays a vital role in ensuring clear and accurate communication between patients and healthcare staff. This position supports medical, dental, and behavioral health services by providing real-time Spanish/English interpretation, assisting patients with forms, and helping care teams deliver high-quality, patient-centered services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate consecutive or simultaneous interpretation between Spanish and English during patient visits and communications
  • Support medical, dental, and behavioral health providers, as well as care teams, during patient interactions
  • Assist patients with understanding and completing forms and documentation
  • Interpret phone messages and assist with patient communication as needed
  • Support RN Care Management and Community Health Worker activities
  • Assist with medical records processing, including labeling, attaching, and routing documents appropriately
  • Participate in staff meetings, huddles, and workflow improvement initiatives
  • Help coordinate follow-up appointments when needed
  • Provide support at other NMHSI locations as necessary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least one (1) year of related experience or training preferred
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English (required)
  • Strong communication, listening, and comprehension skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort with office equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
