For more than 50 years, NMHSI—a nonprofit community health center—has proudly served communities across Northwest Michigan. Our Shelby Clinic is seeking a bilingual, compassionate, and detail-oriented Interpreter to join our team.
About the Role
The Interpreter plays a vital role in ensuring clear and accurate communication between patients and healthcare staff. This position supports medical, dental, and behavioral health services by providing real-time Spanish/English interpretation, assisting patients with forms, and helping care teams deliver high-quality, patient-centered services.
Working closely with providers, clinical staff, and support teams, this role helps remove language barriers and improve access to care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate consecutive or simultaneous interpretation between Spanish and English during patient visits and communications
- Support medical, dental, and behavioral health providers, as well as care teams, during patient interactions
- Assist patients with understanding and completing forms and documentation
- Interpret phone messages and assist with patient communication as needed
- Support RN Care Management and Community Health Worker activities
- Assist with medical records processing, including labeling, attaching, and routing documents appropriately
- Participate in staff meetings, huddles, and workflow improvement initiatives
- Help coordinate follow-up appointments when needed
- Provide support at other NMHSI locations as necessary
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least one (1) year of related experience or training preferred
- Fluency in both Spanish and English (required)
- Strong communication, listening, and comprehension skills
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with office equipment
- Valid driver’s license required
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
