The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana.The Property Assessment Division manages Montana鈥檚 property tax laws, including the valuation of all taxable property for property tax purposes.

Job Overview:

This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of Department of Revenue.The Property Records Specialist (PRS) performs various duties assigned by management. They ensure that property values in the county are accurately recorded, regularly updated, and certified each year for fair and accurate property tax billings. This role supports taxpayers, county officials, and other stakeholders by maintaining reliable property records, processing ownership and sales information, and assisting with taxpayer programs and appeals.

Knowledge of:

  • Mathematics

  • Mapping and geographic information systems (GIS)

  • Research and analysis

  • Commonly used office and spreadsheet computer applications

Special Information:聽 Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.聽 A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.聽

Eligibility to Work: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver鈥檚 license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card".聽 The State of Montana does not sponsor.

REMOTE/TELEWORK: This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite; however, the successful candidate must be a primary resident of Montana as a condition of employment. This position would be required to report to the Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program. Full-time teleworking is not available.

Training Assignment:聽This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

The qualifications desired聽on the first day聽of work are:聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽 One year of post-secondary education or training; and

聽聽聽聽聽聽 One year of job-related experience.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Work experience may include appraisal, assessment, auditing, accounting, banking, data entry, bookkeeping, records management, customer service or a real estate related field.聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must pass the department鈥檚 CORE Assessment training, within the first year of employment.聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
