Production Technician

Department: Manufacturing Operations

Reports To: Production Team Manager or Quality Manager

Position Summary

The Production Technician supports manufacturing operations by operating, monitoring, and maintaining production equipment, performing quality inspections, and ensuring that all processes meet safety, quality, and productivity standards. This position is cross-trained across multiple areas, including machining, testing, maintenance support, and material handling, to provide flexibility and continuity in production operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Operation & Production
    • Operate and monitor production machinery including DCM, CNC, laser cutters, and straightening equipment.
    • Perform setup, calibration, and adjustments to ensure efficient and safe operation.
    • Load and unload parts, fixtures, and tooling as required for daily production schedules.
    • Serve as DCM Relief Operator as needed to maintain consistent line operation.
  • Quality & Inspection
    • Conduct in-process and final inspections, including DCM quality inspection and GOM X-ray verification.
    • Perform dimensional checks and surface inspections using gauges, CMM, and related tools.
    • Document and report nonconformances following quality procedures.
    • Support continuous improvement and root cause analysis activities.
  • Testing & Laboratory Support
    • Assist with metallurgical lab testing (tensile, punch, and chemical tests).
    • Prepare and handle test samples following established standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintenance & Equipment Care
    • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks and report abnormalities to the Preventive Maintenance Planner.
    • Support furnace operations, including temperature monitoring and control adjustments.
    • Maintain housekeeping standards around equipment and work areas.
  • Material Handling & Scrap Management
    • Operate forklifts, hoists, or other handling equipment to move materials safely.
    • Assist with scrap segregation and manage scrap flow per operational requirements.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Follow all environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
    • Participate in regular safety training and report unsafe conditions immediately.
    • Ensure compliance with company and industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO 14001, etc.).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of CNC, DCM, laser, or furnace operations a plus.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic understanding of preventive maintenance and quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • High Pressure Die Casting experience preferred

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
  • May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Rotating shifts and weekend work may be required.

Shift Flexibility Required:
Day, Afternoon, and Night Shifts - M-F, 8hrs
Weekend Shifts - Alternating Work Schedule; 12 hour shifts Fri-Sunday, and alternating Mondays.
