Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to help maintain a safe, reliable, and well-functioning hospital environment for our patients, families, and team members.
This is a hands-on facilities position ideal for someone with experience in commercial or healthcare building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, painting, preventive maintenance, and general repairs. The Maintenance Technician works closely with the Corporate Director of Facilities and hospital leadership to ensure the physical plant, equipment, and safety systems are maintained and inspected in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility standards.

What You’ll Do
As a Maintenance Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of hospital facilities and building systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain the hospital and facility grounds in good repair to promote a clean, safe, and functional environment.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and address maintenance and safety concerns throughout the facility.
- Report unsafe or hazardous conditions, defective equipment, and other safety concerns promptly.
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical, painting, and other building trades.
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and required facility inspections.
- Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on air handlers and HVAC-related equipment.
- Inspect water heaters, chilled water pumps, hot water pumps, exhaust fans, isolation exhaust fans, air coolers, and freezers.
- Perform daily inspections of isolation rooms and related systems.
- Inspect and monitor the medical air system.
- Perform inspections and load testing of the emergency generator.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate water temperatures.
- Perform monthly inspections of fire extinguishers.
- Inspect fire doors, fire dampers, exit lighting, and stairwell lighting.
- Assist in ensuring the fire alarm system and other life-safety systems are operating properly.
- Ensure backflow prevention devices are inspected as required.
- Ensure grease traps are cleaned according to schedule.
- Participate in Environment of Care (EOC) rounds and promptly repair maintenance-related deficiencies.
- Participate in required fire drills, emergency preparedness activities, and the hospital Safety Committee.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate cleaning chemicals, infection-control practices, and personal protective equipment.
- Assist Environmental Services with terminal cleaning, floor buffing, and waxing when needed.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to support departmental and hospital needs.
- Perform other maintenance and facility-related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of related building maintenance experience required.
- Experience should include maintenance, repair, and semi-skilled work across multiple building trades, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and general facility maintenance.
- Healthcare, hospital, commercial building, or other regulated facility maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, licensing standards, safety requirements, and ADA guidelines.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and building inspections preferred.
Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
- Ability to identify facility problems and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to prioritize work in an active hospital environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to respond professionally and efficiently to urgent maintenance needs.
