Job Summary
This entry level position performs support to field operations on general construction and maintenance tasks.  Employees are qualified by training and experience to do all utility, customer service, pipefitting and construction tasks with direct supervision including: meter reading, locating, excavation, flagging, emergency response, basic backhoe/trencher operation, dump truck operator, gas main and service installation/repair and will be eligible for duty crew and on-call responsibilities when judged qualified. Â

Primary focus will be on safety and on the job training. Â Employees will enter a four tiered progression and obtain Operator Qualification training on a limited number of covered tasks as outlined in the Operator Qualification Progression Plan (OQ Progression Plan) to progress to a Journeyman level. Â

The successful candidate must live within the service territory of the job location (Shippensburg, PA) and will be required to hold or obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL A) within the first six (6) months of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Reading residential and commercial meters and recording readings using handheld computers via walking and mobile routes.
- Survey and flagging
- Gas and main service installations and repair
- Backhoe, trencher and dump truck operation
- Locating lines
- Inventory control
- Meter turn on, turn offs, leak investigations, meter changes Â
- Basic pipefitting
- Emergency Response when qualified
- Perform other work as directed once qualified
- Working in confined space
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to pass a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) test and pre-employment drug test and physical
- Must be able to follow all Company safety policies and procedures and protect Company assets. Â Ability to work effectively with supervision, fellow emloyes, customers and public.
- General Computer knowledge
- Safe driving history (confired by driver’s record check) – recent and/or multiple driving violations may disqualify a candidate from employment.  Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license during course of employment.
- Knowledge of equipment operation and pipeline construction with experience in natural gas, construction maintenance or related field preferred.
- Mechanical ability and ability to do physical labor.

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- PA Driver’s License
- CDL A License Preferred
