Overview

Position monitors and analyzes general ledger accounts, financial statements, and reports. Supervises or performs major account analysis. Ensures accuracy in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and the company’s policies and procedures. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

 

Note: (For NJ candidates) This role will be located at our future headquarters in Short Hills, N.J. Until the new headquarters is operational, the successful candidate will be offered the ability to work in our Branchville, N.J. location during this interim period. 

 


Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews monthly account analysis and reconciliation
  • Establishes, interprets and analyzes complex accounting records of financial statements
  • Creates journal entries and adjustments
  • Assists with preparation of both GAAP and SAP investment disclosures
  • Prepares analytical review of financial statements during closing process
  • Handles field questions concerning financial results
  • Performs monthly financial close and financial statement preparation
  • Applies accurate accounting treatment for fixed income, equities, mortgage loans, cash equivalents, and alternative investments
  • Assists and provides support with annual external audit and budget processes
  • Ensures integrity of financial statements. Ensures financial statement compliance with GAAP, company policies and governmental requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Prior exposure to accounting systems with knowledge of GAAP and SAP
  • Proficiency with MS office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with investment accounting software solutions (Clearwater) and custodian (J.P.Morgan) platforms, preferred
  • Excellent evaluation skills and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting 
  • Five or more years of financial accounting experience
  • CPA designation preferred (required for upward mobility)

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $101,000.00 - USD $131,000.00 /Yr.
