Job DetailsJob Location: ALM-Shreveport La Corps - Shreveport, LA 71101Job Category: HousingThis position is responsible for :  Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.   Answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing.     Key Responsibilities: Ensures that all rooms are in proper order before and after arrival of residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order. Checks clients into the shelter; prepares and monitors client intake cards; determines if client has been prepaid by sponsor or credit; prepares resident roster and maintains resident property records. Assists with collecting and entering data into the HMIS database. Distributes towels, linens, and personal hygiene items; secures and distributes client medications as required. Monitors the activities of the shelter residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift. Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the appropriate destination; responds to caller’s questions and provides accurate information. Records accurate and complete messages; ensures the timely and accurate distribution of messages through telephone and/or E-mail. Receives, greets, and announces visitors in a courteous and tactful manner; provides assistance to callers and visitors by answering questions and providing instructions and referrals. Notifies proper individuals when visitors or clients have arrived; ensures that visitors and clients have signed-in. Receives and prepares receipts for donations, packages, express mail, and items delivered to the lobby; notifies proper individuals of item arrival by telephone and/or E-mail Benefits:  Health Insurance Voluntary Life Aflac PTO  Holiday Pay Retirement   WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU: High school diploma or G.E.D. and six months experience performing security work or working in a social service environment, nursing, or as a first responder (fire or police), or any field where there is evidence of working with the issues of  poverty, homelessness, or mental health. two years of progressively responsible experience working in a major firm with telephone switchboard responsibilities. or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. License & Certifications - None.   Mental & Physical Abilities: Ability to meet attendance requirements Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action. Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to operate a telephone and/or switchboard. Ability to sort documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations.
