About the Position

The Bioinformatics Analyst will use computational and statistical tools to interpret vast biological datasets to support scientific research and discoveries. Duties will include designing algorithms, databases, collaborating with researchers, and analyze and communicate complex findings through visualizations and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Pre-Med/Nursing, or a related scientific field preferred
  • AHIC (Health Informatics Certification) is a plus
  • 1 year medical paraprofessional experience
  • 1 year working in clinical informationcs department at an accredited university
  • Minimum 2-3 years of combined experience next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, adept in the development of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis pipelines and large-scale data management and processing
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in full software development life cycle with strong skills in software analysis, database design, data modeling, different data types architecture development and data management
  • Experience working with internal and/or external stakeholders on solution design and implementation
  • Programming languages: R, PHP, JavaScript, Perl, Python, SQL, Shell Scripting and Java. Computing Environments: HPC clusters, SLURM, Linux, Mac OS X, Windows
  • Working knowledge of biomedical ontologies (i.e. UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of unstructured, semi-structured, and structured healthcare data
  • Strong familiarity with surgical and molecular pathology repotts, next-generation sequencing report, or clinician notes
  • Demonstrated competency in oral and written communication
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail and reliable, possess good judgment and a positive, friendly & professional demeanor
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate PI/study needs through design and configuration of software capabailities to deliver desired outcomes and customization of use
  • Modify software application design as needed to meet PI/study needs
  • Design & implement algorithms fpr data processing, and develop & maintain bioinformatics databases
  • Work closely and collaborate with researchers, computer scientists, and others involved to design experiments and interpret results
  • Utilizes high performance computing assets and large data bases (big data)
  • Analyses of problems to develop integrated solutions involving computer hardware and software
  • Applies theoretical expertise and innovation to create or apply new technology, such as adapting principles for applying computers to new uses
  • Incorporate problem solving techniques to develop integrated solutions involving computer hardware and software
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Perform highly complex network tasks and systems studies
  • Analyze and compare existing systems and subsystems, and make recommendations to increase scope and performance
  • Oversee laboratory information systems and develop new methods for analyzing large, complex data sets
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical informatics
