We take a holistic approach, providing comprehensive services to thousands of children and adults in our neighborhoods, no matter their disability, military status, income, race, or age: To help each child reach their full potential, we provide personalized child development and early intervention services. To improve health and reduce isolation in adults with disabilities, we offer engaging activities and expansive resources. To enable military families to integrate into the community, we provide a suite of services, including employment support and mental healthcare.  As the Easterseals affiliate serving Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, (www.eseal.org) Easterseals DC MD VA works through public-private partnerships to provide community-based services in the most efficient manner possible. These traits were demonstrated in the opening our Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Inter-Generational Center, which has quickly become an international model of excellence for delivering superior outcomes, including creating meaningful connections between generations. It was opened through visionary partnership among local, state, and national governments, as well as private individual, corporate, and foundation investment. The shared resources created a maximum return on investment for the community. Through a variety of resources, Easterseals provides information and guidance about how to navigate changing needs within our communities.

Position Description
Position Overview
Easterseals DC MD VA offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a GL – Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial management, reporting, and compliance skills, along with excellent communication and project management abilities. This role requires the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Experience working with federal, state, and local funding sources is strongly preferred.
About Easterseals DC MD VA
Easterseals DC MD VA is the regional affiliate serving Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Through a network of 10 locations and in-home services, we provide Behavioral Health, Adult Medical Day Care, Early Childhood Education, Therapy, Respite, and Workforce Development services to individuals and families throughout the region.
In addition to serving the broader community, our programs emphasize support for wounded warriors, veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families. As an independent 501(c)(3) organization governed by a local Board of Directors, we are committed to addressing critical community needs so all individuals have the opportunity to thrive.
Our team of more than 200 professionals includes experts in education, therapy, senior services, nursing, social work, assistive technology, and related disciplines. As part of the Easterseals national network, we also have access to the expertise and resources of nearly 25,000 professionals across the country.
Position Summary
The GL – Senior Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for supporting the organization’s financial operations through accurate reporting, reconciliations, compliance monitoring, and general ledger management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Journal Entries
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and other general ledger adjustments
Account Reconciliation
- Perform reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, with a strong emphasis on cash reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies timely
Month-End Close
- Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting
Audit Support
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations related to financial activity
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with departments to obtain financial data and provide support related to budgeting and forecasting
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, efficiency, and reporting accuracy
Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule consisting of approximately two (2) days in-office and three (3) days remote/work-from-home
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including telephone, computer, printer/copier, calculator, and other office technology
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Fiscal Management, or related field required; CPA preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience in a similar role
- Experience with Sage Intacct required
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Strong computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications and financial systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines
- Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, dependability, and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Background check may be required
