SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This role combines all-hazards firefighting expertise with emergency medical care at the EMT level. The Firefighter EMT will respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies, providing critical services to protect life, property, and the community. Under the supervision of a company officer, the Firefighter EMT will perform fire suppression, emergency medical care, and rescue operations while maintaining a commitment to safety, professionalism, and teamwork.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Firefighting and Rescue Operations:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Respond to fire alarms, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescue calls.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Perform fire suppression, ventilation, search and rescue, and salvage operations.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Operate firefighting equipment, including hoses, pumps, ladders, and extrication tools.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Conduct pre-incident planning and fire prevention activities, including public education and inspections.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Maintain firefighting equipment, apparatus, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
Emergency Medical Services:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Provide emergency medical care at the EMT level, including patient assessment, basic life support (BLS), and trauma care.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Stabilize patients at emergency scenes, administer oxygen, control bleeding, and perform CPR.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assist paramedics with advanced life support (ALS) procedures as needed.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Safely transport patients to medical facilities while monitoring their condition.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Document patient care accurately and completely in accordance with departmental protocols.
Operational Readiness and Safety:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Inspect and maintain medical supplies, firefighting equipment, and vehicles to ensure readiness for response.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe driving practices.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Participate in ongoing training, drills, and certifications to maintain proficiency in firefighting and EMT skills.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
Community Engagement and Teamwork:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Collaborate with other SFE personnel, law enforcement, and emergency response agencies during incidents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Basic firefighting (fire behavior, suppression, hazmat awareness) and EMT-level medical care (BLS, trauma care).
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Operation of firefighting tools, equipment, and emergency vehicles.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Incident command system (ICS) and safety protocols.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 2 years of firefighter or EMS experience preferred.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D., as a minimum educational requirement.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must possess a valid Colorado driver鈥檚 license or be eligible to obtain within 30 days.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Firefighter 1 (must be IFSAC within 3 yrs)

Lateral Requirements:聽
To qualify as a lateral hire, at the time of application, the applicant must possess and provide proof of the following.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A minimum of 4 years of continuous fire experience obtained in the previous 5 years.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Experience must be obtained from a municipality, district, or other fire department that provides structural firefighting and EMS聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 services; from an ALS EMS transport service; or a combination of both.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Paid on-call, part-time, or volunteer firefighting experience is not acceptable experience for the 4 years outlined above.
