ABOUT INSIGHT SCHOOLS OF CALIFORNIA:
Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based-instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day.
This position is for a part-time, after-hours (3-7pm) Education Specialist position. Â Education Specialists are responsible for the specialized academic instruction (SAI) for students with disabilities. They manage a caseload of students, including scheduling and holding IEP meetings. Â Most communication is done virtually via video conference, teleconference, regular phone calls, email, instant messaging, and online.
HOURS AND PAY INFORMATION:Â
Part-Time After-Hours:Â Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-7:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Pay:Â $110 per student, per month

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with  children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the  School’s pioneering mission and approach.Â
Summary:Â
The After-Hours Education Specialist requires a firm understanding of how best practices from a classroom can be applied to our innovative model and an openness to explore the ways technology can help create  new best practices.Â
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Â
• Support assigned students receiving Special Education servicesÂ
• Obtain academic present levels/baselinesÂ
• Follow up with providers to confirm that IEP attendance, reports, and services are being completedÂ
• Schedule and hold individual monthly phone conferences with the general education teachers and for families of students assigned to caseload, follow up on any noted concernsÂ
• Complete ongoing contact logsÂ
• Be available for families on your caseload via phone and online during your contracted hoursÂ
• Draft Assessment Plans and Prior Written Notices to send to Special Education Mentor within timelinesÂ
• Email IEP related documents to the office to send outÂ
• Set up IEPs in online classroom, and follow up on attendeesÂ
• Ensure all documents are submitted and available prior to IEP meeting (psych report, related services  provider reports/goals, GE/Parent progress) and forwarded to IEP Team members.Â
• Email/mail all reports to parentsÂ
• Write and manage IEPs for students on caseloadÂ
• Obtain signatures on Assessment Plans and/or IEP documentsÂ
• Draft ITP’s and hold transition meetings, as appropriateÂ
• Monitor confidential tracking database for returned IEPsÂ
• Follow up with parental or teacher concernsÂ
• Work closely with Special Education Mentor and/or Program Specialist to report any concernsÂ
• Keep files in office compliantÂ
• Update appropriate database(s) with services, accommodations, IEP dates and other necessary  informationÂ
• Attend professional development meetings when applicable.Â
• Attend Special Education department meetings when applicable.Â
• Complete IEP Progress Reports for each student, including Related Services Provider progress as  reported by the Related Services Provider
• At the end of the year gather all individual student records and communications for digital archiving (IEP’s, monthly progress notes from teacher, parent input form, reports from evaluations, etc.)Â
• Respond as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to parent, student, teacher and administrative  inquiries via phone and/or e-mail during regular work weekÂ
• Attend all in person meetings as scheduledÂ
• Other duties as required by Program Specialist or DirectorÂ
Requirements/Experience:Â
• Reside in the state of CaliforniaÂ
• Bachelor's degreeÂ
• Strong content and subject-matter knowledgeÂ
• Ability to support and guide adults, as well as studentsÂ

Certificates and Licenses: Â
Must hold a valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate or the new  Mild/Moderate Support Needs AND/OR Moderate/Severe Disabilities or the new Extensive Support NeedsÂ
California English Language AuthorizationÂ
* A California Multiple Subject Credential is highly desirable, but not required.Â
Further Considerations:Â
Most positions are full time. However, given the fact that some enrolled students live in more rural and remote parts of California, the need for part time education specialists to serve these students locally is crucial. Also, as a school with open enrollment, there are times when there are not enough students yet to fill a full-time position, therefore providing an opening for a part-time teaching position. A part time  position involves all of the same responsibilities as a full-time position but bears a reduced class load.Â
Assignment of Students:Â
Students will be assigned to education specialists by the Program Specialist or designees according to a  number of variables. Full time classes will be filled prior to assigning students to part time education  specialists. Education specialists with special education experience will be assigned students with special  needs. Â
