Forklift Crew member
Essential Job Functions
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safe and efficient movement, storage, loading, and inventory control of raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility. This role supports production and shipping operations by operating powered industrial trucks, maintaining accurate inventory records, preparing outbound orders, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, safe equipment operation, and effective teamwork within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Equipment Operation & Material Handling
- Operate propane or electric powered industrial trucks (forklift, slip-sheet/layer picker, clamps, and other lifting devices) to move, stack, stage, and transport materials.
- Safely load, unload, and stack materials on pallets, racks, trailers, and warehouse storage areas.
- Position forks or lifting devices to handle pallets, skids, boxes, and packaged products without damage.
- Supply production lines with materials and remove finished goods as required.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance including battery charging, fueling, lubrication, and equipment inspections.
Order Picking & Inventory Control
- Accurately pick, stage, and prepare outbound orders according to shipping priorities and timelines.
- Utilize barcode scanners, inventory systems, and license plate tracking to verify product identity, quantity, and location.
- Conduct inventory counts and maintain accurate records of materials and finished goods.
- Verify case counts, product rotation, and pallet configuration standards.
- Identify and report discrepancies, damages, or inventory errors promptly.
Shipping, Loading & Transportation Support
- Inspect trailers and containers for cleanliness, safety, and compliance prior to loading.
- Load trucks and containers using proper weight distribution and securement practices to prevent shifting or damage.
- Assist with truck and axle weight verification to meet regulatory limits.
- Prepare and verify shipping documentation and communicate completion status to supervisors.
- Meet established loading timelines and operational efficiency standards.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Follow all forklift safety procedures, plant rules, and OSHA guidelines.
- Maintain clear visibility and safe travel speeds when operating equipment.
- Use horns, signals, and awareness practices when operating in shared work areas.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in warehouse and dock areas.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions or damaged materials when observed.
