Palmer Candy is looking for a 2nd shift Supervisor at our Hwy 75 location. 

Job Title: Supervisor 

Department: Manufacturing
Shift: 2nd Shift
Employment Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Plant Manager

 

Position Summary

The Supervisor is responsible for leading all manufacturing operations during the second shift in a food manufacturing facility. This role directly supervises approximately 40 Team Members, including one Department Lead, operators, and line support staff, and typically operates with limited on-site management support.

 

The Supervisor serves as the primary decision-maker on shift, with a strong emphasis on safety-first leadership, food safety compliance, and Team Member accountability. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Act as the on-site safety leader for 2nd shift, ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Proactively identify, correct, and document safety hazards, near misses, and unsafe behaviors
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety programs, sanitation standards, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, FDA, USDA as applicable)
  • Conduct shift safety huddles and complete incident reporting and initial investigations
  • Oversee day-to-day production activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, and labor efficiency goals
  • Assign work, manage staffing levels, approve timecards as required, and coordinate break coverage
  • Monitor production performance, downtime, and labor utilization; take corrective action in real time
  • Support and coach the Department Lead and Team Members with troubleshooting and process improvement
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance feedback to hourly Team Members
  • Address attendance, performance, and conduct issues promptly and consistently
  • Deliver initial corrective actions in alignment with company policy; escalate complex or sensitive issues to Management or HR
  • Support onboarding, training, cross-training, and development of Team Members
  • Foster a respectful, accountable, and engaged work environment
  • Ensure products meet quality standards and food safety requirements throughout the shift
  • Respond to quality deviations, holds, or non-conformances and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure accurate completion of production, quality, and food safety documentation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all 2nd shift operational issues
  • Communicate shift performance, concerns, and incidents to Management and cross-shift leadership
  • Complete required reports related to safety, production, quality, labor, and personnel
  • Make independent decisions necessary to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient operations
  • Recognize issues requiring escalation and involve Management or HR for serious safety, quality, or employee relations matters
  • Regular and timely attendance is required for this job. 


Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in food manufacturing
  • 1+ years of supervisory, lead, or acting supervisor experience
  • Working knowledge of safety programs, GMPs, and food manufacturing operations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal on-site management support

Preferred:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, or related field
  • Experience supervising 30+ hourly employees
  • Experience with SAP
  • Familiarity with OSHA, FDA, or USDA regulations
