Position Summary:
Ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s learning, well-being, and development in cooperation with their parents and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with the Head Start Performance Standards, USDA, and day care licensing regulations. Based on parent goals, classroom observations and individual child assessments the teacher plans a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum which meets the needs of all children and their families.

Essential Functions:
• Ensure a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool‑age children
• Plan and implement curriculum aligned with Head Start Performance Standards and child development best practices
• Individualize instruction based on observations, assessments, and family goals
• Conduct developmental screenings, assessments, and maintain child portfolios and documentation
• Promote children’s cognitive, language, social‑emotional, and physical development
• Communicate regularly and respectfully with families about child progress and classroom activities
• Support family engagement through conferences, home visits, and classroom involvement opportunities
• Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to classroom staff and volunteers
• Collaborate with education, health, mental health, and disabilities staff to support children’s needs
• Maintain accurate records, program documentation, and compliance requirements
• Promote healthy practices related to nutrition, safety, and overall wellness
• Model positive guidance strategies and responsive teaching practices
• Maintain confidentiality of child and family information
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning activities
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:
Preschool Teacher A – $23.99- $26.65 hourly ($26.38- $29.32 hourly in Metro locations)
Associate’s degree in

  • Early childhood education or child development; or

  • Any field and coursework equivalent1 to a major relating to early childhood education or child development AND 6 months of actual work experience teaching preschool age children.


Preschool Teacher B -$25.67- $28.52 hourly ($29.42- $31.37 hourly in Metro locations)
Bachelor’s degree or higher in

  • Early childhood education or child development; or

  • Any field and coursework equivalent2 to a major relating to early childhood education or child development AND 6 months of actual work experience teaching preschool age children.


1 Oregon Registry Step 9 or higher per degree or college coursework pathway
2 Oregon Registry Step 10 or higher per degree or college coursework pathway

Metro locations include Washington County and Multnomah County sites.
