Job Scope:

Responsible for managing the color manufacture department from color matching through scheduling and supervising the color concentrate production process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the color matching process which includes formulating/color matching customer targets for Sales department. Approves and/or adjusts all color concentrates prior to submission to molding. This includes ensuring additives are in the correct proportions and resins are in compliance with of Silgan Dispensing standards. Manufactures production and customer color chips utilizing plastic injection molding methods.
  • Reviews the Molding Schedule Summary, which includes all colors needing to be produced, for any changes such as deadlines, shipment dates, and quantity updates. Schedule production to ensure the Molding department receives colorant in a timely manner.  Responsible for ordering pigments, supplies and parts for machine repairs.
  • Assigns work to Color Lab personnel utilizing a team format aimed at increased improved productivity. Also responsible for discipline, vacation requests, absenteeism, problems, etc. Maintain safe working conditions within the Color Lab.  Conducts department meetings, such as safety, quality and finance.
  • Reviews and maintains an adequate supply in inventory of pigments, additives, and other related supplies needed for the color concentrate production process. Maintains a perpetual inventory deleting and adding materials as appropriate. Optimizes inventory to balance obsolescence and productivity.  Ensures that all equipment and machinery is maintained in good working order. Manages department budget.
  • Performs hourly performance reviews annually.
  • Responsible for the recycling of the barrel inventory and ground material.  Included in this responsibility is compiling material left over from the previous days run and determine what can be reused and what can be sold for scrap.
  • Works with Product Stewardship to ensure all ingredients are in compliance with government regulations for packaging, including FDA compliance letters, colorant, and resin specification sheets
  • Attends a variety of meetings to include the daily production meeting.
  • Provides technical support to Sales and Engineering departments on information relating to materials, additives, and colorants.
  • Responsible for the inspection, testing and verification of incoming material.
  • Schedules deliveries of raw materials. Responsible for quality control of colorants.
  • Maintains a record of sample/color lab activity such as extrusion, henscheling, dye weighing, colorant formula, grinding, unit submissions, and color checks.
  • Meet with vendors and corporate sourcing group to discuss pricing issues, new products, and material related problems, which need solutions. Ensure budgetary objectives and corporate objectives are met

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A.S. Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2-5 years of Color matching process or formulation experience
  • Experience managing production schedules, deadlines, shipment dates and quantities
  • Prior supervisory experience
