Staffing Coordinator/Scheduler – Nursing

Lakeshore Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Slidell, LA, part of the Volare Health family of skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, is seeking a Staffing Coordinator/Scheduler to join our team!

If you are highly organized, dependable, and enjoy working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, this is an opportunity to play a key role in ensuring our nursing department is appropriately staffed and supported.

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday

Weekend availability may be required as needed.

Important: This position will be responsible for carrying and monitoring the staffing phone throughout the workweek and responding promptly to call-outs, staffing needs, and urgent scheduling matters.

About the Position

The Staffing Coordinator/Scheduler is responsible for maintaining nursing schedules, coordinating staffing coverage, and making adjustments as needed to ensure the facility meets staffing needs. This position works closely with the Director of Nursing and nursing leadership to maintain appropriate staffing levels and respond to changes in census, call-outs, planned leave, and other staffing needs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain nursing staff schedules and all records related to staffing.

  • Create and post the facility's four-week master nursing schedule.

  • Ensure staffing patterns and appropriate coverage are maintained.

  • Make staffing adjustments based on census fluctuations, call-outs, planned leave, and operational needs.

  • Coordinate requested days off, vacations, sick time, and other scheduling requests under the direction and approval of the Director of Nursing.

  • Monitor staffing levels and proactively identify potential coverage concerns.

  • Communicate schedule changes and staffing updates with nursing staff and leadership.

  • Maintain accurate records of absenteeism, schedule changes, time-off requests, and other staffing-related information.

  • Keep the Director of Nursing informed of staffing concerns and scheduling issues.

  • Carry and monitor the staffing phone and respond promptly to call-outs and urgent staffing needs.

  • Assist the Director of Nursing with administrative duties as requested.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee and resident information.

  • Understand and comply with Resident Rights and ensure resident rights are maintained at all times.

  • Follow all facility policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of staffing or scheduling experience; healthcare or long-term care experience preferred.

  • Previous nursing staff scheduling experience is highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related computer software.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional when handling call-outs and last-minute staffing changes.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with nursing leadership and staff.
