Clay County is seeking a skilled and dependable Parks Maintenance Technician to join our Parks team. This hands-on position performs skilled maintenance, repair, construction, and grounds work throughout County parks, facilities, marina areas, and infrastructure.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Parks Maintenance Technician, you’ll take on a wide variety of projects, including:

  • Perform skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, welding, painting, concrete, roofing, and general repair work
  • Maintain and improve County parks, buildings, grounds, roads, marina facilities, docks, boat ramps, and infrastructure
  • Operate tractors, skid loaders, backhoes, commercial mowers, dump trucks, boats, work barges, snowplows, and other equipment
  • Repair and install plumbing, electrical components, lighting, irrigation systems, signage, fencing, gates, and facility fixtures
  • Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping, planting, mulching, tree and shrub care, and sod installation
  • Assist with new construction, remodeling, underground utilities, water and sewer lines, and electrical runs
  • Fabricate and repair marina docks, decking, flotation systems, anchoring systems, walkways, signs, and metal components
  • Perform road repairs, culvert maintenance, asphalt patching, and drainage improvements
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment
  • Assist with snow and ice removal and other after-hours operations when needed
  • Help train and mentor new employees while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of increasingly responsible related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Experience in one or more related fields such as:
    • HVAC
    • Plumbing
    • Carpentry
    • Electrical/electronics
    • Welding
    • Painting
    • Grounds maintenance
    • Custodial or facility maintenance
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat and cold and on or around bodies of water
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work

TRADE CERTIFICATION

Candidates should possess a certification or license in at least one skilled trade area, such as:

  • HVAC / EPA Section 608
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Certified Welding
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator
  • Refrigeration, boiler, or mechanical systems

Don't have a certification yet? Candidates may be given the opportunity to obtain an applicable trade certification within 12–18 months of hire as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • College coursework or trade-school training in a maintenance-related field
  • Valid Class A or Class B CDL
  • Additional skilled-trade certifications
