GSA CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Tennessee & Kentucky | Frequent Travel Required

Chitina Diversified Services is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to support federal construction, renovation, repair, and tenant improvement projects throughout Tennessee and Kentucky.

This is a traveling Superintendent position. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel regularly between project locations throughout Tennessee and Kentucky based on project needs. Candidates should be comfortable managing work in occupied facilities where maintaining ongoing building operations, coordinating access, controlling disruptions, and communicating with facility personnel are critical to successful project delivery.

Experience managing federal construction contracts is strongly preferred, with GSA project experience highly desirable.

What You'll Do

As the on-site field leader, the Superintendent will manage daily construction activities from mobilization through project closeout. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead daily field operations, subcontractor coordination, site logistics, work sequencing, and manpower planning.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager to maintain project schedules, milestones, look-ahead schedules, material deliveries, and equipment requirements.
  • Manage renovation and construction activities within occupied and operational facilities, minimizing disruptions to employees, tenants, customers, and ongoing facility operations.
  • Coordinate construction involving building systems, mechanical systems, plumbing, interior renovations, and related trades.
  • Plan and coordinate shutdowns, outages, utility interruptions, restricted work periods, and other activities affecting occupied facilities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and contract requirements to ensure work is properly coordinated.
  • Supervise subcontractors and verify that work is completed safely, correctly, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, permits, security badging, facility access, Government approvals, and other project requirements.
  • Support federal quality control processes, including preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections, deficiency tracking, punch lists, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor project progress, identify schedule impacts or field conflicts, and work with the Project Manager to develop recovery or mitigation plans when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower counts, photographs, safety documentation, quality records, RFIs, field directives, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
  • Maintain professional communication with Government representatives, facility personnel, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and company management.
  • Enforce jobsite safety, security, housekeeping, access control, and conduct requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of construction Superintendent experience.
  • Experience with federal construction contracts strongly preferred.
  • GSA construction experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing construction and renovations in occupied facilities.
  • Experience coordinating mechanical, plumbing, building systems, interior renovations, and multiple construction trades.
  • Experience managing phased renovations, tenant improvements, repair projects, or similar work where portions of the facility remain operational during construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and contract documents.
  • Working knowledge of federal construction documentation and quality control processes.
  • Experience with GSA, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, DOE, FAA, or other Government construction programs is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, site logistics, and schedule management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and construction management/document control systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to professionally represent the company when working directly with Government customers and facility personnel.

Travel Requirement

This position requires frequent travel throughout Tennessee and Kentucky.

The Superintendent may be assigned to different project locations based on contract awards and construction schedules. Candidates must be comfortable traveling to and working at federal facilities throughout both states and remaining at project locations as required by the assignment.

Applicants seeking a permanent assignment to one specific project site may not be a good fit for this position.

Federal Site Requirements

Depending on the specific contract and facility, the successful candidate may be required to:

  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Successfully complete a federal background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain required federal facility access, HSPD-12 credentials, security clearance, or other customer-specific badging.
  • Comply with federal facility security and access-control requirements.
  • Maintain OSHA 30 certification.
  • Meet project-specific requirements related to EM 385-1-1, First Aid/CPR, and Quality Control Management certifications.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on construction professional who understands that renovation work inside an occupied federal facility requires a different level of planning and coordination than new construction.

You should be comfortable coordinating building occupants, Government representatives, subcontractors, mechanical and plumbing trades, shutdowns, access restrictions, inspections, deliveries, security requirements, and changing field conditions while keeping the project moving safely and on schedule.

If you have successfully managed federal renovation projects in occupied facilities and are comfortable traveling throughout Tennessee and Kentucky, we would like to hear from you.
