Job Summary

  • Wellstar Vinings in Smyrna, Georgia is seeking a FT Outpatient Registered CT Technologist.
  • This position will work 4 10 hour shifts, 9am-7:30pm. Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri.
  • Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
  • Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
  • Able to independently perform job functions.
  • Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for procedures.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Patient Care

  • Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias to ensure safety and prevent complications.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and correct right/left marker usage.
  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains crash cart and life‑support equipment.
  • Assists technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates when physician intervention is required.
  • Verifies correct identity of patient using two unique identifiers.
  • Ensures patient privacy, comfort and dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrates competence in selecting appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to complete required activities within designated time frames.
  • Follows physician instructions when assisting with exams and procedures.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Dialogs with patient/family.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and understands both pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for procedures.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture.

Equipment

  • Demonstrates ability to adjust technique to ensure lowest possible radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.

Education and Communication

  • Clearly explains purpose and nature of the exam using AIDET to minimize anxiety and increase cooperation.
  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are fully addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
  • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures to patients.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology.
  • Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through with assignments.
  • Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.

Quality Control

  • Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational before each use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed.
  • Prints and scans after‑hours teleradiography reports into PACS when applicable.
  • Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
  • Prints completed log sheet from teleradiography and submits to Radiologist when applicable.

Operations

  • Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports patients, positions them and assists them on and off procedure tables.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices as needed.
  • Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when time allows.
  • Performs clerical and support duties as required to ensure continuity and service quality.
  • Keeps supervisor informed on responsibilities and promptly reports concerns or problems.
  • Maintains individual productivity equal to other coworkers.
  • Operates all workstations associated with the CT department.
  • Pushes and retrieves images from the CT console to PACS.
  • Maintains Joint Commission and other regulatory standard compliance.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology — Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)

  • ARRT‑R Radiography
  • ARRT‑CT Computed Tomography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association — Required

Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology — Required
  • Less than 1 year experience in CT — Preferred

  • Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills due to frequent interactions with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff.
  • Routinely obtains, presents and discusses clinical information related to job duties.
