- Wellstar Vinings Health Park in Smyrna, Georgia is seeking a FT Registered Radiology Technologist.
- Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
- Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
- Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures.
- Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
- Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
- Able to independently perform job functions.
- Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.
- Works with students during their clinical rotation.
- This position offers a flexible schedule for outpatient imaging and requires working one weekend per month.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Equipment
- Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department schedule.
- Ability to operate all aspects of the system.
- Ability to operate all radiographic equipment safely and competently; ensures equipment is not abused and is left in good working order.
Patient Care
- Obtains complete clinical history, gathers exam data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
- Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias when applicable.
- Ensures proper patient identification and correct use of right/left markers.
- Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
- Responds to emergency situations and restocks crash cart and maintains life‑support equipment when applicable.
- Assists other technologists across modalities when needed.
- Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention.
- Verifies two unique patient identifiers and the correct clinical order prior to performing procedures.
- Ensures patient privacy and comfort.
- Demonstrates competence in appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
- Organizes schedule, time and priorities to complete required activities within designated time frames.
- Uses critical thinking skills.
- Asks clarifying questions and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
- Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
- Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
- Preps the patient for the procedure.
- Demonstrates and understands sterile technique when applicable.
- Maintains competency with venipuncture when applicable.
Education and Communication
- Clearly explains purpose and nature of exam using AIDET to minimize anxiety and improve cooperation.
- Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed prior to the procedure; notifies physician when needed.
- Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
- Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
- Documentation is concise, legible and uses precise terminology.
- Reads daily email and follows through with assignments.
- Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
Quality Control
- Consistently produces high‑quality images including proper collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
- Ensures equipment is fully operational before each use by checking calibration and operational deficiencies.
- Sends all studies to PACS and prints CDs as necessary.
- Ensures exams are complete in RIS with proper orientation, marking, labeling and accurate notes.
- Prints and scans teleradiography studies when applicable.
- Checks for prior exams and ensures they are loaded and properly labeled before sending to PACS.
Operations
- Restocks linens and supplies and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition.
- Transports patients, positions them and assists them on and off the procedure table.
- Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.
- Applies shielding and supportive/immobilization devices.
- Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when needed and when time allows.
- Performs clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and quality of services.
- Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities and promptly reports issues or potential concerns.
- Maintains individual productivity equal to other coworkers.
- Maintains Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards.
- Ability to transfer and retrieve images in PACS.
- Takes call when necessary.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Education
- Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiologic Technology — Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)
- ARRT Radiography — Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association — Required
Required Minimum Experience
- Entry‑level position — Required
