Description of Work
This position is assigned to Maury Correctional Institution located in Hookerton, NC. Maury CI is a close/medium custody facility which houses approximately 1500 male offenders. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for HVAC mechanics within the Correctional facility. This position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: The primary purpose is the operation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration units and associated air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems for a major correctional institution. This position will supervise, and train assigned HVAC mechanics involved in the operation and maintenance of the physical plant and will be responsible for assuring that assigned staff are properly trained. Responsible for maintenance of an effective preventative maintenance program and quality control of repair work performed on assigned systems or components. Will supervise daily operation of the physical plant which includes boilers, chillers, generators and related switch gear. This position received requests for work, set priorities and make work assignments. This position will also perform repairs and preventative maintenance tasks as needed and assigned.Salary Range: $47703 - $83,479
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Working knowledge of refrigeration theory. Working knowledge of operating (BAU) building automation systems. Working knowledge of troubleshooting (DDC) Direct Digital Controls. Basic knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control circuits. Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors. Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of pneumatic control systems. Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Ability to train and supervise other workers. Ability to design smaller air-conditioning systems or design modifications to larger systems. . Ability to review and critique plans and specifications for air-conditioning systems.Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.EEO Statement
