Clinical Manager, Outpatient Behavioral Health
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, provides supervision and leadership to staff at the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. The position plans, directs, and coordinates operational and personnel activities to ensure provision of high-quality patient care. The role includes collaboration and communication utilizing participative decision- making when appropriate. The position is responsible for promoting the ongoing development of staff and maintaining a professional environment and providing patient care support.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides supervision and clinical expertise to staff in the clinic area.
- Works collaboratively with the Director on hiring and orienting new staff, personnel management, and performance evaluations.
- Documents and tracks performance improvement activities. Investigates and resolves patient and staff complaints within the clinic.
- Provides staff supervision and demonstrates clear expectation of accountability based on job descriptions and department needs.
- Monitors staffing and patient census while promoting teamwork, communication, and patient flow within the clinic.
- Collaborates with providers and other departments to ensure coordinated patient care and team environment is maintained.
- Monitors activities for quality of procedures, positive customer service and patient-centered care in the assigned clinics.
- Reviews and revises policies and procedures with the Director, AVP of Behavioral Health, and/or Section Chief.
- Works collaboratively with the Director to coordinate department meetings and maintenance of meeting minutes.
- Maintains clinical competency to provide leadership for staff.
- Processes timecards as assigned.
- Assists with budget monitoring and preparation.
- Provides direct clinical patient care support and procedures as needed.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting guidelines and agencies’ policies.
- Responds to consultative needs of the department.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the care given by interdisciplinary care team, identifies challenges and counsels team members on solutions.
- Prepares and presents external presentations as assigned within scope of practice and knowledge.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Maintains professional communication with all staff, patients, and customers to provide positive service excellence.
- Consistently demonstrates willingness and ability to function as clinical supervisor and support BMC Mission, Vision, and Values.   Â
- Facilitates departmental meetings and “work projects” to develop strategies for continued quality improvement within designated time frame.
- Completes all personnel management activities in a timely manner including but not limited to Kronos, performance evaluations, performance feedback, and schedules.
- Monitors staff and demonstrates clear expectations of accountability based on individual job descriptions.
- Monitors department expenses within the established budget.
- Ensure staff uses supplies, time, and resources in a safe and fiscally responsible manner.Â
- Prepares annual performance appraisals on assigned staff members and ensures staff completes mandatory training within designated time frame.
- Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications.
- Communicates professionally, clearly, concisely, and accurately; creating a working climate that promotes growth, team spirit and job satisfaction of personnel.
- Completes required annual mandatory education within defined time frame.
- Ensures department staff turnover is within organization standards.
- Maintains competence in clinical skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years outpatient clinic experience.
- Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Certification in BLS.
- Advanced computer experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
