PURPOSE OF POSITION

Sets up CNC milling, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications. Reads and interprets technical blueprints and design models, and inputs the product design into computer modeling software. Tests the accuracy of settings and programs.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    General Functions:

    Set up and operate CNC Machines.

    Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develop an environment of continual improvement through the use of Lean tools.
  2. Promote the Bird Family Values through your actions – Trust, Innovation, Teamwork, Achievement and Accountability.
  3. Be able to describe the quality policy and goals, your contribution to quality, and the effects of not observing quality and customer requirements.
  4. Setup and machine parts as directed by CNC programmer for use as production, models, or prototypes
  5. Provide feedback and assist CNC Programmer with issues.
  6. Reads and follows blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences. 
  7. Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work pieces on machine.
  8. Able to locate programs on a PC and load them onto a CNC machine.
  9. Familiarity with G-Code and basic CNC programming
  10. Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow
  11. Starts the machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions. Stops machine to change cutting tools and set up according to the required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments. 
  12. Provide additional assistance in machine shop as required.
  13. Run production on mills, lathes, punch press
  14. Ability to lift up to 50lb.
  15. Able to use Microsoft office tools
  16. Other duties as required.

 


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

High school education or equivalent. One or more years’ setup and machining experience with 3 axis mills, lathes with live tools. . 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Grip and grasp tools and parts for assembly; repetitive lifting of materials/parts weighing 5-10 lbs; form parts and perform fine manipulation; turning and twisting wrists and hands.
