We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Preventionist for MGB Medical Group. The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of MGB MG IC, one of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the SR Manager of Infection Control at MGB MG, must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice, the ability to make evidence-based decisions, excellent problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
In this role, the Infection Preventionist implements system-wide infection prevention and control goals, policies, and standards at the site level while ensuring alignment with clinical, administrative, and regulatory requirements. The position leads NHSN and non-NHSN surveillance, outbreak detection, remediation, and reporting activities, and conducts regular Environment of Care rounds with timely communication of findings to local and system leaders. The role supports continuous improvement efforts, evaluates site-specific infection risks, and develops strategies to reduce transmission. This individual serves as a liaison to regulatory and public health agencies, oversees infection prevention education, and collaborates closely with Occupational Health and key stakeholders such as Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance, Facilities, and Real Estate. Additional responsibilities include acting as NHSN site administrator when designated, participating in IPCC working groups, and completing other duties as assigned.
The Infection Preventionist will work in a hybrid capacity with meetings onsite at the Mass General Brigham headquarters (Assembly Row in Somerville MA). In addition, frequent travel to various Mass General Brigham Medical Group locations across the region. MGB is in an active change management environment and the Infection Preventionist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time.

Essential Functions
-Report communicable diseases to local and state health departments and complete public health department forms as needed
-Utilize performance improvement methodology as a means of enacting change.
-Develops an annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.
-Maintains records of actual potentially infectious patients and reports pertinent information to county, state, and federal agencies as required by law.
-Provides formal and informal education programs to hospital personnel as necessary or when directed.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences required
Master's Degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or relevant field

-Implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections.
-Application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others.
