Position Title: Medical Director, Cambridge Hospital Continuing Care Nursery

The Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Neonatology is seeking a full-time experienced clinician with strong leadership skills to serve as Medical Director for the Newborn and Special Care Nurseries at The Cambridge Hospital, our community affiliate.  The Cambridge Hospital is an innovative health care system that includes primary care, maternal and newborn care, emergency and inpatient services.  The Cambridge Hospital serves a culturally rich yet underserved population with 1400 deliveries annually. The Medical Director will be the clinical leader for the inpatient newborn and special care nurseries where they will be responsible for implementing best practices and policies for optimal newborn care, including collaborating with the obstetrics and family medicine services for high-risk patients.  The Medical Director will engage with leaders in pharmacy, pathology, and subspecialty consultants to ensure appropriate newborn equipment, medications and practices.

The Medical Director will benefit from being a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Department of Neonatology with access to the resources and expertise of a large academic department while providing an opportunity to practice in an intimate community hospital with 1400 deliveries annually. BIDMC is at the core of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), a combined hospital and physician group network comprised of an academic medical center, the Harvard Medical School affiliated BIDMC, teaching hospitals, and superb community hospitals, as well as primary and subspecialty outpatient care.  The BILH Neonatology Team, comprised of neonatologists, hospitalists and advanced practiced providers collaborates seamlessly to deliver exceptional care for newborns delivered in our six member and affiliate birth hospitals and our level III NICU.  

Appointment as an Instructor at the Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with experience, training and achievements in addition to teaching activities.  Applicants will be expected to provide clinical supervision and teaching of medical students and residents. Suitable candidates will have at least 5 years of newborn medicine experience. Delivery attendance and comfort with newborn resuscitation is required. Successful individuals will be excellent communicators who have demonstrated the ability to synthesize unit needs, prioritize initiatives, and engage clinical staff. An MD or DO and Board Certification in Pediatrics or Medicine-Pediatrics with or without subspecialty Neonatology certification is required. Job Requirements:  

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school

  • Board Certification in Pediatrics or Medicine-Pediatrics with or without subspecialty Neonatology certification is required

  • A valid MA medical license or the ability to obtain one

  • At least 5 years of newborn medicine experience

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Pay Range:

$187,000 - $275,000

The base pay range reflects what Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which may include bonuses for productivity and quality HMFP also offers a comprehensive and generous employee benefits program to eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as retirement plan(s) with employer contributions.
