Senior Staff Accountant

Laura Chenel & Marin French Cheese
Petaluma, CA | Full-Time | In Person
Salary: $90,000 - $105,000 per year

Join a Team That's Crafting More Than Great Cheese

For decades, Laura Chenel and Marin French Cheese have been known for crafting exceptional artisan cheeses that people love. From our roots in Sonoma and Petaluma to our connection with a respected international cheese group headquartered in France, we've built our reputation on quality, tradition, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Behind every great product is a great team. We're looking for a Senior Staff Accountant who wants to do meaningful work, contribute to important business initiatives, and be part of a collaborative team where their ideas and expertise truly matter.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join our Finance team. We're in the middle of a significant transformation as we transition our accounting and reporting processes into JD Edwards (JDE). As our Senior Staff Accountant, you'll play a key role in ensuring accuracy throughout that transition while supporting a full month-end close process across multiple entities.

What makes this role unique is the breadth of exposure. Rather than being limited to one area of accounting, you'll gain hands-on experience with inventory and manufacturing accounting, intercompany transactions, ERP implementation, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. You'll also work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales teams, giving you a deeper understanding of how the business operates from end to end.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, investigating discrepancies, improving processes, and taking ownership of their work while continuing to grow professionally.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Transition & Reconciliation

  • Support the transition of accounting processes and reporting into JD Edwards, including reconciliations between JDE and our existing accounting systems.
  • Review transactions and investigate discrepancies across JDE, QuickBooks, and supporting operational systems.
  • Document accounting procedures and maintain clear supporting documentation as processes move into JDE.

Month End Close & General Accounting

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and other accounting adjustments.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Maintain prepaid, accrual, fixed asset, and other supporting schedules.
  • Support AP, AR, cash, and bank reconciliation activities as needed.

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

  • Support inventory and manufacturing accounting, including inventory reconciliations, adjustments, and cost-related analysis.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to research variances and resolve accounting issues at the source.

Multi-Entity Accounting & Reporting

  • Assist with intercompany accounting and reconciliation between U.S. entities.
  • Assist with remaining accounting and reconciliation activities for entities that are closed or transitioning.
  • Assist with quarterly reporting and financial review packages.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate accounting processes as the function moves onto a single system.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and journal entries.
  • Inventory accounting experience in a manufacturing, CPG, or food production environment.
  • ERP experience.
  • Strong Excel skills, including working with large data sets, PivotTables, and VLOOKUPs.

Preferred

  • JD Edwards (JDE) experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP implementations or system conversions.
  • Experience working across multiple legal entities, including intercompany transactions.
  • QuickBooks experience.
  • Cost accounting exposure, including standard costing and variance analysis.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys digging into the details while keeping sight of the bigger picture. The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, and comfortable navigating change. You aren't just identifying problems, you're helping find solutions.

You'll be successful in this role if you:

  • Enjoy researching and resolving discrepancies.
  • Take initiative and follow through on open items.
  • Can balance competing priorities during close cycles and project work.
  • Communicate effectively with both finance and operational teams.
  • Are eager to learn new systems and processes.
  • Value teamwork and enjoy partnering with colleagues across the organization.

Why Join Us?

At Laura Chenel and Marin French Cheese, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while continuing to build your accounting career.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to play a leading role in a JD Edwards implementation, gaining highly valuable ERP conversion experience.
  • Broad exposure to inventory, manufacturing, cost accounting, intercompany accounting, and financial reporting.
  • A collaborative, supportive finance team where your contributions are visible and appreciated.
  • Direct interaction with leaders and business partners across the organization.
  • The chance to work for two beloved artisan cheese brands with a rich heritage and the backing of an international organization.
  • An environment that encourages continuous improvement, professional growth, and new ideas.

If you're looking for a role where you can expand your skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and be part of a company with both local roots and global reach, we'd love to hear from you.
