Role Summary: This position is mobile, headquartered in NSU’s Santa Cruz, CA office and serving NSU's Operations, covering the Santa Cruz service area, providing operations and maintenance support to various wastewater facilities as directed by the operations manager. The mobile operator is an independent well-organized self-starter able to manage his/her own time to complete assigned site coverage(s) in their given allotted time. Responsibilities include operations and maintenance as well as alarm call response and client satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as PH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc., in order to monitor system condition
- Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facilities permits
- Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes and pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc. (Further defined below in addendum A)
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
- Assist in preparing monthly written operating report based on facility’s operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
- Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
- Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of and report safety hazards
- Required to be part of a 24 hour on call rotation
- Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
- Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
- Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
- Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
- Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
- Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route
- Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
- Confined Space Entry – this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of water/wastewater experience, preferred
- 40-hour work week: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30 pm (30-minute lunch)
- Must be willing to participate in an on-call roster resulting in periodic work after hours sometimes including weekends and holidays
- Overtime as required
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Driver’s License
- CA Wastewater Treatment Grade 3 License minimum required

Pay range: $38.33–$48.33 per hour, based on certifications, licenses, and relevant experience.Â
