ELECTRICAL PROJECT MANAGER / ESTIMATOR

Location: Souderton, PA

POSITION SUMMARY

Universal Electrical Service, Inc. is seeking a highly organized and experienced Electrical Project Manager / Estimator to join our growing team in Souderton, PA. This position is primarily focused on project management, with estimating and preconstruction responsibilities supporting successful project execution.

The Electrical Project Manager / Estimator will oversee commercial electrical projects from preconstruction and contract award through completion and closeout. This role will work closely with clients, general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, field leadership, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to UES quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a commercial electrical professional with strong field experience who understands how electrical projects are installed and managed. Candidates with a background as a Journeyman Electrician, Lead Electrician, Foreman, General Foreman, or Superintendent are strongly preferred, particularly those who have transitioned into project management and estimating.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Manage commercial electrical projects from contract award through completion and closeout.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, manpower requirements, and project milestones.
  • Coordinate project activities with field leadership, electricians, customers, vendors, and other trades.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, material requirements, labor costs, and overall project performance.
  • Review project plans, specifications, drawings, RFIs, submittals, and contract documents.
  • Identify project risks, scope changes, scheduling issues, and potential cost impacts.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate material procurement and ensure materials and equipment are available when required.
  • Work closely with field leadership to resolve technical, scheduling, and installation issues.
  • Conduct project meetings, site visits, and progress reviews as required.
  • Monitor project costs and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Assist with billing, forecasting, cost-to-complete projections, and project financial reporting.
  • Ensure projects meet company safety, quality, schedule, and profitability expectations.
  • Coordinate project closeout, punch lists, documentation, and final turnover.

ESTIMATING & PRECONSTRUCTION

  • Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents.
  • Perform electrical takeoffs and quantity surveys.
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Prepare estimates, budgets, and competitive proposals.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs.
  • Identify scope gaps, project risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Assist with change-order pricing and project cost analysis.
  • Maintain historical pricing and estimating information.
  • Support design-build, negotiated, and competitive bid opportunities.
  • Participate in post-bid reviews and lessons-learned discussions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5–7 years of electrical project management and/or estimating experience in commercial construction.
  • Strong preference for candidates with a commercial electrical field background, such as:
    • Journeyman Electrician
    • Lead Electrician
    • Electrical Foreman
    • General Foreman
    • Electrical Superintendent
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical construction practices and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, one-lines, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, manpower, materials, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Experience with change orders, RFIs, submittals, procurement, and project closeout.
  • Experience with electrical estimating software such as Accubid, McCormick, ConEst, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Working knowledge of NEC requirements and applicable electrical codes and standards.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel occasionally to commercial project sites, client meetings, and pre-bid walkthroughs.
  • Ability to visit active construction sites and safely navigate jobsite conditions.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel and project stakeholders.
