Marine Services
VLS Marine Services division offers state-of-the-art barge cleaning, repair, and gas-free facilities for various chemical solvents and downstream petroleum products.
The Painter Helper position is responsible for preparing and assisting painting the exteriors of barges to include tanks and hopper. Occasionally, paints other industrial equipment and various other parts. In addition, maintains housekeeping of paint shop to include picking up trash and general cleanup. Depending on workload, this position may be assigned to other duties in other locations throughout the shop

Job Duties
Is safety minded and pushes safety throughout the shop. Is compliant with all safety rules and regulations
Meets production goals and covers time allowed on jobs. Completes job to include signing off on all required paperwork
Ability to use conventional painting equipment, airless painting equipment, blasting equipment, respirator and hand tools
Ability to learn how to tear down and repair same paint or blast equipment
Maintains paint equipment keeping it in clean and in good working order
Maintains PPE including respirators in good working order
Assists paint pumps, spray equipment, and blast equipment
Work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 6 feet off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection
Keep the work area clean and free of trash, scrap, and debris
Complete safety training as required
Complying with all safety rules and regulations
Participate in daily toolbox meetings
Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment as needed
Identify safety hazards in the workplace and alerting appropriate supervision
Any other duties assigned (i.e. shop/yard clean up and moving to other depts. as needed)

Requirements
Required Qualification
Basic math, reading comprehension, and writing skills
Ability to work M-F 6:00am-2:30pm with mandatory overtime (OT after normal shift and weekends)
Work weekends as needed
Dependable
Manages time effectively
Must be willing to help out in other departments as needed
Ability to work independently or as a team member
Must be authorized to work in the US
Preferred Qualifications
High School Graduate or equivalent
Previous industrial or commercial painting experience
