Position Overview

Join our growing team as a Custodian, where you’ll play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This position supports daily operations by ensuring property cleanliness and upkeep across all common areas, offices, and residential units.


Location: South Bend, IN

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET.

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor


Key Responsibilities

Property Cleanliness & Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain assigned areas, including restrooms, rental offices, vacant units, hallways, laundry rooms, and common areas
  • Perform general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and pressure washers
  • Restock restroom and common area supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.)
  • Support seasonal cleaning or special event preparation as assigned
  • Complete other custodial tasks or projects as directed


Trash Removal & Safety Compliance

  • Empty trash and recycling bins regularly and dispose of waste per guidelines
  • Ensure cleanliness of outdoor areas around trash enclosures and entryways
  • Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment as required
  • Immediately report any safety concerns, leaks, damage, or maintenance issues to the appropriate team member


Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, maintenance team, and coworkers to ensure coordinated operations
  • Assist other departments or respond to property needs as requested
  • Maintain a courteous and respectful approach when interacting with residents, guests, and team members


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience in a residential or commercial setting


Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of cleaning products, proper usage, and storage
  • Physically able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required, with the ability to travel between properties within the portfolio as needed
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
