Job Summary:

 

Schafer Industries is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the engineering department in daily tasks such as cycle time studies, process capability studies, process development assistance and development of engineering documentation.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Cycle time studies

  • Utilize provided documentation and tools to study a given processes cycle time and throughput expectations.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering and process operators to understand process requirements and expectations and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Upon completion of study, update rate and file supporting documentation.

Capability studies

  • Work with appropriate gauging for a given process and develop process capabilities on critical features.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations to understand the man, material, and methods influence of a given process/feature and make recommendations on improvements where needed.

Process development assistance

  • Assist manufacturing engineering with process development of new product or product improvements.  
  • Assist process engineering with tool design and operation drawings as needed.
  • Assist in restructuring of file management and form layouts of documents.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must be pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study after high school graduation.
  • Experience in metal cutting and finishing operations is a plus
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Outlook or similar.
  • Must exhibit motivation and drive to succeed.

Working Conditions:

 

Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.   This job will be working in a fast paced, exciting environment, that will provide exposure to the many facets of production engineering.
