Essential Job Duties
Help patrons use the library with a special emphasis on connecting young patrons with reading and engaging experiences. Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Assistant Manager and with an unwavering commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Youth Associate Librarian will:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.
- At least 1 year of experience working with the public at a public library or bookstore is required.
- A valid State of Indiana Librarian Certification, Level 5 or obtained within three years of hire as a condition of employment.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
- Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.Â
- Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL’s ethical standards.Â
- Practical experience and proficiency with computers, including the Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Windows, Mac OS, and communication technologies.Â
- Knowledge of a wide variety of library materials and services.
- Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move library materials (20-25 lbs.) and to stand for long periods of time.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of children's literature and early literacy educational methods.
- Spanish language skills preferred.
