Supervisor (Nights)

The Extrusion Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership, safety, quality, productivity, staffing, and operational performance of the assigned shift. This position directly supervises extrusion employees, ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, drives production results, maintains quality standards, and promotes a safe and efficient work environment.

The Night Shift Supervisor serves as the primary leader for the shift and is accountable for employee performance, attendance management, coaching, corrective action, staffing decisions, operational execution, and communication with management regarding production performance and concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Employee Management

• Provide direct supervision and leadership for all assigned shift employees.
• Establish clear expectations and hold employees accountable for safety, quality, attendance, productivity, and workplace behavior.
• Conduct employee coaching, performance discussions, corrective actions, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
• Monitor employee attendance, timekeeping, and point accumulation through Kronos each day.
• Make or approve employee work assignments, staffing allocations, shift coverage, overtime, and employee movement based on operational needs.
• Support employee development through training, mentoring, retraining, and performance feedback.
• Partner with Human Resources regarding employee relations, investigations, performance concerns, and policy administration.
• Escalate significant personnel or operational issues to management when necessary.

Safety Responsibilities

• Conduct and document daily safety toolbox talks.
• Ensure employees follow safety procedures, company policies, and required work practices.
• Verify required personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn properly at all times.
• Maintain orderly, clean, and safe work areas throughout the shift.
• Identify, document, and address safety concerns or hazards.
• Ensure monthly safety testing and required safety documentation are completed.

Production and Operational Management

• Lead and coordinate daily production activities to meet customer and business requirements.
• Line up production for the shift and ensure due-date dies are staged at the presses in accordance with compliance requirements.
• Monitor production rates, pounds per hour, equipment performance, and hourly results throughout the shift.
• Update hour-by-hour boards for due-date dies and pounds per hour.
• Investigate and document causes of production losses, downtime, rate misses, or inefficiencies, and review them to support corrective action.
• Ensure each press is adequately staffed without unnecessary overstaffing or understaffing.
• Verify tables are left full and prepared for the incoming shift.
• Control and monitor raw material inventory as assigned.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, technical staff, Quality, and Operations to resolve production issues.
• Report nonconformities, production barriers, and other hindrances to the Extrusion Manager.

Quality Responsibilities

• Ensure all quality processes, procedures, standard work, and work instructions are followed.
• Check job instructions in Order Shop Floor or print the applicable instructions and ensure they are followed.
• Promote the quality objectives of Customer Satisfaction, Excellent Quality, and Continual Improvement.
• Periodically verify that employees can identify at least one quality objective.
• Report quality nonconformities and process concerns to the Extrusion Manager.
• Ensure a cleanout block is run every 50th billet and at each alloy change.
• Leave the butt on the die daily so the Die Shop can complete the daily alignment check.
• Confirm the die oven checklist is completed each day.

Compliance and Documentation

• Ensure all required production, quality, safety, training, and personnel paperwork is complete, accurate, and timely.
• Maintain documentation related to new-hire onboarding, standard-work signoffs, new-hire records, wage increases, employee ratings, monthly safety tests, and EASE audits.
• Enter FMX requests for downtime and equipment issues and follow up through resolution.
• Review Kronos daily to ensure employees clock in and out correctly and to monitor attendance points.
• Ensure operational checklists, employee records, and corrective-action documentation are properly completed.
• Administer company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements consistently.

Continuous Improvement and Communication

• Review production performance, downtime, scrap, quality issues, safety concerns, and shift communications.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, production rates, quality performance, and waste reduction.
• Participate in problem-solving and corrective-action activities.
• Communicate expectations clearly and follow up to ensure they are met.
• Partner with HR, Safety, Quality, Maintenance, Operations, Die Shop, and other support groups as needed.
• Provide a thorough shift handoff and escalate serious issues when additional support or direction is required.

Qualifications

• Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Working knowledge of safety, quality, production, and employee-accountability practices.
• Basic computer skills, including production reporting and timekeeping systems.

Preferred

• Experience in aluminum extrusion or a related metals-manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Kronos, FMX, or similar systems.
• Experience leading continuous-improvement activities.
• Knowledge of extrusion presses, dies, alloys, and related production processes.
