Guideway Technician - 3rd-shift

Hourly rate: $28.52

 

Guideway Technicians maintain and troubleshoot the assets on the AirTrain guideway (expansion joint repairs, drainage control, elastic restraint system, cleaning and painting) in line with specified procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

This position will require manual work and sometimes working on powered equipment in a safe and controlled manner:

  • Guideway Repair Tech is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the guideway structure including concrete piers, bearings, superstructure, expansion joints and drainage system.
  • To perform concrete repairs including removal and replacement of structural concrete, crack repair by epoxy or grout injection, vegetation growth control, expansion joint repair/ replacement. Joint sealer repair/ replacement, elastic restrain system (ERS) repairs and guideway drainage system repairs.
  • To perform Confined space cleaning and repair work.
  • To perform ice/snow clearance operation.
  • To carry out such work in accordance with strict Health & Safety procedures.
  • To participate to the maintenance of other assets.
  • To report activities (work orders/inspections) through a Computerized Maintenance Management system (Maximo).
  • To adhere to Company procedures especially in relation to Quality and Health & Safety.
  • To read reports and manuals when required.
  • To report accidents/incidents.
  • To respect, clean and maintain the work environment.

 

Requirements

Experience

  • Six months of bridge construction experience preferred
  • Six months of experience as a Track Technician preferred
  • One year of concrete and drainage (PVC) repairs experience.

 

Skills & Competencies

Mandatory

 

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards.
  • Ability to work at heights, outdoors and nights, possible weekend and holiday if required.
  • Ability to planning & organize: Prioritizes day-to-day workload.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability: Adapts to changes in work schedules.
  • Demonstrates time management and meets deadlines.
  • Ability to work well on a team by supporting team members.
  • Must have the ability to drive a company vehicle when required and possess a valid license in accordance with New York State Motor Vehicle Laws.

 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Rail/Vehicle environment.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry tools, equipment and garbage for up to 10 minutes.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for a minimum of 6 hours.
  • Must be comfortable working with lifts.
